LAHORE: Iranian President Masood Pazeshkian arrived on a two -day official visit for bilateral relations and regional cooperation on a two -day official visit on Saturday.
The Iranian President-former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz were welcomed in Lahore, along with a high-level delegation, including senior ministers and other senior officials.
The Iranian President, who is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, later arrived in the federal capital. Upon arrival at Noor Khan Air Base, the Prime Minister welcomed the upcoming dignity.

The Iranian president visited the tomb of Alma Iqbal, where he received the Guard of Honor from the armed forces personnel.

During his stay, the Iranian President will meet with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari and will hold talks with Prime Minister Shahbaz at the delegation level.
This is the first official visit to Pakistan as Iran’s President.
Talking to reporters in Tehran before his departure, Pizeshkian – who has followed the first official visit to Pakistan as President – said that the purpose of the visit was to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.
“The purpose of this journey is to promote commercial and economic relations,” he said. The Iranian President added that during the visit, issues related to border security and regional peace will also be discussed.
He remarked, “We believe that cross -border markets and contacts can open new avenues for mutual cooperation.”
President Pazeshkian further expressed hope that bilateral trade volume could be increased by $ 10 billion. He also highlighted Iran’s interest in active participation in the China -Pakistan Economic Transit (CPEC), which is a key component of the One Belt, One Road (OBOR).
Prime Minister Shahbaz last visited Iran on May 26. The visit of the President is expected to further strengthen the brotherhood relations between Pakistan and Iran.
