India’s senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram has criticized the lack of the Modi government’s transparency in the management of the Pahalgam attack and its subsequent operation.
In an interview to Quint, Chidambaram raised concerns about the silence of the BJP -led government over important details, including the identity of the attackers and the progress of the NIA investigation.
He advised that the government may have been hiding strategic mistakes and casualties, and that it should be accused of stopping important information from the public.
“Where are the terrorist attackers? Why didn’t you catch them, or even identify them? There was a news about the arrest of some of the shelters for the attackers. What happened to them?” He asked the April 22 Phalgam attack, killing 26 people.
Chidambaram also highlighted what he described as the absence of clear and public communication.
“We get snatching from various officers and pieces of information. The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) goes to Singapore and makes a statement that makes you a statement of information. The Deputy Army Chief makes a statement in Mumbai. In Indonesia, a Junior Minister of the Navy made a statement but a statement, but a statement. He said.
When he was asked what he thinks the government is trying to hide, Chidambaram replied: “In my view, and these are speculations, I think they are hiding the fact that we have made strategy mistakes (during Operation Sundor), and we have re -strategic …
The CDS gave a hint about it. What were strategies errors? What changes were made to the strategy? Either the BJP government lacks the ability to answer these questions or it is deliberately avoiding them.
He also raised concerns about the involvement of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the investigation.
He said, “They are not ready to disclose what the NIA has done in all these weeks. Have they identified the terrorists, where they come from? Because we all know, they can be a hometown terrorist. Why do you assume that they have come from Pakistan?”
Chidambaram added: “They are also hiding the losses. I said in a column that in a war, there will be losses on both sides. I think India will suffer losses. Stay in front.”
Earlier in April, the Indian central government under Modi allegedly acknowledged that the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) illegally occupied by Indian illegally played a role in the failure of security, resulting in the death of 26 people.
Conflict
In May this year, Pakistan and India engaged in the April confrontation, which launched the IIOJ attack in the April Phalgam attack.
In response to Indian aggression, Pakistan’s armed forces launched a massive retaliation, called “Operation Bonyan Um-Marsus”, and targeted several Indian military targets in several areas.
Pakistan dropped its six fighter jets, including three Rafael, and dozens of drones. At least 87 hours later, the war between the two countries equipped with nuclear weapons ended May 10 with a ceasefire agreement by the United States.
After Washington spoke with the two sides, US President Donald Trump first announced the ceasefire on social media, but India is different from Trump’s claims that his intervention and endeavor to end trade negotiations.
However, Pakistan has recognized Trump’s efforts last month, citing its role in eliminating tensions between Pakistan and India, and formally recommended them for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
