Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated a new digital system for licensing and registration of medical devices on Monday.
Addressing the launching ceremony, he emphasized that all stakeholders’ efforts and determination were emphasized to revolutionize the health care sector.
Under the new system, applications for registration of medical services and equipment will be decided within 20 days in a transparent and merit -based system, Premier said.
In the past, regretting the delay in the registration of medical services, he called Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority (drop) “not drag, drop, because it had been dragging this process not for months but for years. The reasons were known to all.”
Prime Minister Shahbaz, citing issues in the health sector, recalled that during the post of the Chief Minister, he sent some cardiovascular drug samples for examination, when several deaths were later indicated at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, later reported in London. Etc. indicated that these medicines were meant to treat malaria and not to heart patients who did not handle it properly by drip.
The Prime Minister said that he had brought Major General (Retd) Azhar Mahmood Kayani to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology, which made the facility a remarkable because of his hard work and dedication.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the country needs such health facilities.
He also recalled that during his post as Chief Minister, his government allocated a huge budget for providing free cost medicines to government-run hospitals during 2014-15.
He said that 60 % of these drugs proved to be less than quality, he added, later, under his strict direction, the supply of price -free quality medicines was ensured.
In addition, his provincial government established laboratories across the province to facilitate the poor and the deprived.
He also praised the Minister of National Health Services Mustafa Kamal for its stringent efforts to introduce reforms in the health sector.
He added that the minister also took notice of the closure of hospitals and now he will be restored.
The Prime Minister emphasized that if he decided to revolutionize the health sector, it could be a difficult task but not impossible.
“There may be mountains like obstacles, but if we decide to talk to them and move forward, nothing can be a hindrance to progress and prosperity.
He further emphasized, “The hard work is not unheard of.”
Premier Shahbaz also expressed hope that with joint efforts and decisions, he would change Pakistan’s fate and was not far from the day when the country would get its mark between the nations.
He also praised the Minister, Secretary, CEO and his team for the introduction of the digital system.
The ceremony was attended by ministers, parliamentarians, concerned officials and experts.
The Minister said in his remarks that he squeezed the time of registration through an online digitalization system spanning more than 20 days, which changed the previous one that requires a long period of time.
He said that the system would be free from any human contact as certificates would be available online without drip.
Kamal said that all efforts in the health sector have identified the present government’s intentions and vision under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
Referring to major problems in the health sector, including population growth, water -causing diseases and others, the minister said he was trying his best with the resources available to control them.
He said that the basic health care system would be further strengthened to reduce the burden with public private partnerships in key health care centers.
Everything from wheelchair to MRI machines will be registered and licenses online.
Citizens can submit online applications from home to register medical devices and get licenses, he added.
The Minister said that the move would now shorten the process for only twenty days for years, and the people would have access to timely quality, safe and effective medicines and medical equipment.
