PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi took oath on the occasion of the Senate elections, following the direction of the Peshawar High Court.
The opposition MPA has made hours after filing a petition in the PHC, urging the Chief Justice to nominate an authority to monitor the oath -taking process after the session was postponed due to lack of correum.
21 women and four minority members took oath as a member of the KP Assembly in the safe seats.
Earlier, KP Governor Kandi turned to X and said according to the court order, he would take oath with the MPA at his official residence in Peshawar at 6 pm today (Sunday).
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session was postponed shortly after the lack of quorum as PTI lawmakers left the important seat earlier today.
KP Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, who launched a delay of more than two hours, postponed the session when PTI MPA Sher Ali Afridi identified the quorum shortage.
The chair then ordered the head count and rang the bells for a five -minute break before the session offered by July 24.
The decision to leave the assembly meeting came after a decision to boycott sitting after a meeting of PTI’s parliamentary parliamentary party.
When the proceedings began today, the opposition MPA criticized the barrier during the Quranic recitation, saying, “You cannot identify the quorum during the recitation,” said the Muslim League (NKMPA.
He added, “Mr. Speaker, this is not the right way … We have been denied our right to take oath for two years.”
Opposition leader Dr Abdullah Khan in the KP Assembly also expressed his displeasure over the speaker’s move, warning that the opposition would take legal action.
“We will go to court and request the Chief Justice to intervene,” he said. “If the oath is no longer taken, at least it should be at the end of the evening.”
He added that it is determined to keep the opposition safe that there is a small political space left and to ensure that it will not be eliminated further.
‘Violation of the Constitution’
Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpur has announced that the MPA of reserved seats in the Governor House has announced the oath.
In a statement, Gandapur said that Article 65 of the Constitution clearly states that the oath can only be given on the floor of the assembly.
He made it clear that the Provincial Assembly speaker did not deny the oath management, but the session had to be postponed due to lack of quorum.
He added, “The next session has been summoned on July 24. Taking oath in the Governor’s House is an unconstitutional process.”
The Chief Minister added that if the Speaker and the Chief Minister refused, then the Chief Justice could nominate someone to oversee the oath.
Gandpur said his government would challenge the oath -taking ceremony in court. He confirmed, “The writ petition has been completed but it cannot be filed today due to a judicial holiday. It will be presented to the Peshawar High Court tomorrow.”
Senate Pool
Following the PHC’s directives, a spokesman for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that the Senate election in KP will be elected at 11am in Jerga Hall.
Oath is an important method of completing the election college for the upcoming Senate elections.
The spokesperson added that elected members did not take oath on Sunday in reserved seats for women and minorities in the provincial assembly, which was formally requested to nominate a appropriate person to manage the oath from the Peshawar High Court.
In expecting Monday’s proceedings, the ECP has directed the Chief Secretary’s Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Inspector General Frontier Constabulary to ensure foolproof security arrangements.
The Commission emphasized that a safe and uninterrupted environment is essential for smooth approach to the electoral process.
PTI angry members
The recent progress came after the PTI differences in the distribution of Senate tickets when KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpur and the party’s political committee failed to stop the angry members.
One day ago, the first round of talks in Peshawar, five candidates, after refusing to withdraw from the race, ended without consensus.
He rejected the direction of the party leadership to step aside under a 6-5 formula, which allocates PTI to six Senate seats and five opposition parties.
Disagreements demanded that the claim should be made again before considering the withdrawal of a seat of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Fazal (Jof) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). That night there was another meeting between the Chief Minister and his unpleasant candidates, but also failed to make the deal.
A total of five candidates have refused to withdraw their papers from Monday’s elections.
Among these candidates, Irfan Saleem, Khurram Zeeshan and Waqas Orakzai are hoping for a general seat, former Additional Inspector General of Police, Syed Irshad Hussain, a candidate for a reserved seat for technocrats and Aisha Banu is a candidate for safe seats for women.
Opposition nominees are Talha Mahmood, Ataul Haq Darwish, Rubina Khalid, Dilawar Khan, and Niaz Ahmed.
Internal sources confirmed that the Chief Minister had directed the group to withdraw unconditionally, but he was infamous. When former PTI Peshawar City President Rehman Jalal addressed a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, he warned the leadership of the ticket list or the leadership of the facial road protests.
A large number of party workers have protested and have launched an aggressive social media campaign, especially for three loyal workers – Khurram Zeeshan Advocate, Irfan Saleem and Aisha Banu. He demanded that senior leadership nominate Arfan Saleem as the central contender of the upper house.
Irfan is currently the PTI Peshawar District President and he is an active member of the party. Aisha Banu is the former MPA and the vice president of the party in KP.
Khurram Zeeshan is a former civil judge and practicing lawyer, who received bail for hundreds of party workers after appearing in court in May 9. He is currently the Deputy Information Secretary of the PTIKP.
Earlier this week, despite the government’s opposition formula, the internal uprising over the feasibility of holding unpaid Senate elections in KP has expressed serious doubts.
Under this agreement, the PTI will secure six seats while the opposition will take five.
