Rawalpindi is one of the five Pakistani cities who has performed Test cricket on more than one land. The city has hosted a total of 17 Tests on two different grounds so far, of which Pakistan defeated 7, 6 and pulled 4.
Pindi Club Ground
Pindi Club Ground is one of Pakistan’s oldest cricket ground. It was built in 1886 during the days of the British Raj, which was then a camp in Garrison City Rawalpindi. He worked as a place for matches between various Army teams.
Queen Victoria’s grandson, Prince Christian Victor, who was a good cricketer, was posted with Kings Royal Rifles in Raulpindi and in a match against the Devon Shire Regiment, which scored 205 runs, which is apparently the first recorded double century, now in Pakistan.
Oxford University team visited India in 1902-3 and had a first-class match at the Pindi Club Ground against the Northern Punjab team in their travel matches. First class cricket arrived at Pindi Club Ground with a tour of the MCC team in 1926-7. Under the leadership of Arthur Glenn, this strong aspect, which is settled by many Test cricketers, played two matches at the Pindi Club Ground Premies. One of the highlights of these matches was the excellent innings of 150 through Andy Sandham, which became the first triple in Test cricket a few years later.
After the establishment of Pakistan, the Pindi Club Ground played a host of the West Indies and Sri Lanka, as well as a star -staded wealth team, including players like Frank Warrell, John Holt, Bill Eli and George Tribune. These matches also included local veteran off -spinner margins, which were almost unbearable on their home turf at the Pindi Club Ground and will gain fame for Pakistan in the 47 years and 275 days after a few years.
In 1954-55, India’s touring Test teams played first-class matches at the Pindi Club Ground against all local eleven in 1958-59, Australian in 1959-60 and England in 1961-62.
First, and as it turned out, the only Test match to be taken at the Pindi Club Ground was against New Zealand in 1965. Pakistan, which was organized by Hanif Muhammad, won the toss and put New Zealand in batting. Qi’is was soon in serious trouble for 91 runs for 91 runs, even as all his hard -hitting Bruce Taylor staged a rally with a sharp 76, including 13 fours and a six. New Zealand arranged 175 in their first innings in which Pervez Sajjad took 4 wickets for 42 runs.
Pakistan responded with confidence, reached a sharp 135 for 3 runs by the end of the game, scoring one run in a minute, with the fifties of Mohammad Elias and Saeed Ahmed. Pakistan innings ended with a score at 318 the next day, giving them 143 runs. Asif Iqbal also arranged fifty polished. By the end of the game, New Zealand scored 59 runs for 6 wickets and after forty minutes of batting on the third day, the match ended as New Zealand was out for only 79, which gave Pakistan victory through innings and 64 runs. New Zealand scored 2 to 59 runs for 57 runs, lost 7 wickets for just 2 runs and 5 wickets fell to just 59. Pervez Sajjad was the chief with 4 wickets for 47 runs for 4 runs again, thus getting 8 wickets for 47 runs.
It was Pakistan’s first Test victory in about 6 6 years. Interestingly, one of the umpires for this exam was a remarkable Pakistani script, Qaim al -Din Butt, who did not write less than ten books on Pakistan’s cricketing fate in the 1950s and 60s.
Sadly, close to 10,000, with the seating capacity of this historic ground, was never allotted another Test match, yet there were many international touring teams for the side games, and even during the 1987 World Cup, Pakistan and England were started. Now that the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is commonly used for major cricket matches in the city, it is very likely that the Pindi Club Ground will be on the list of isolation test forever. It is now named after the Army Sports Ground.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
The stadium was given a commission in 1992, which took four years. Its official capacity was recorded as 16,200, though it sometimes has up to 20,000 fans. The stadium, which replaced the Pindi Club Ground for international matches, is just 20 minutes away from the capital Islamabad.
The opening match at the stadium was an international, in January 1992, a one -day was organized between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The stadium was not yet fully prepared for the incident that the land areas were still empty and it was rumored that a green spray was to be used on TVSCT to give the impression of an army field through the TVSCR.
In December 1993, the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium became the fourth Test match center of Pakistan when Pakistan played the role of Zimbabwe at this place. It was the last time that a test match on Pakistani soil was a rest day, a feature that is now fully excised with Test cricket everywhere.
Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by 52 runs in this opening exam, with Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis shared 16 of Zimbabwe’s 20 wickets. Since then, the stadium has become a regular test location and popular. After the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009, Test cricket in Pakistan was unhealthy for 10 long years. When he finally returned to Pakistan in 2019 with a tour of the Sri Lankan team, it was Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which had the honor of hosting the first Test. Sadly, the match was severely interrupted by the rain and ended in the draw without the completion of the first innings of the two teams.
So far, Pakistan has played 16 Tests at the stadium which they have defeated 6, 6 and have pulled the remaining 4.
At this point, the tallest team in the innings is 657 through England on December 657, 2022, scoring in just 101 overs, with an extraordinary rate of 6.5 runs per over. The innings marked the introduction of ‘Baz Ball’ from a Pakistani crowd of England. On the first day, by the end of the England game, there were 506/4, which broke the former record of 494/6 of Australia vs South Africa in 1910, for the highest score of a Test for the highest scores. The record number of four batsmen scored the first day in the centuries, the highest in the same day of the test play.
On this land, the highest total of 579 from Pakistan, which he arranged in the same match. Despite Pakistan scoring more than 500 runs in their first innings, it was a painful experience of losing the Test. It was the 18th time when this test was cricket history and the fourth time when it faced this luck.
In October 2024, England have the lowest team score of 112 in this ground, as Pakistan won by 9 wickets to avenge the defeat two years ago. Interestingly, Pakistan took only 37.2 overs to dismiss England, they were all provided by the spinners. In fact, Pakistan did not bowl a speedy pace in this entire Test match, which is why this is the only second example in the history of Test cricket. In October 1998, Pakistan’s lowest 145 has been made on this turf against Australia. The total Test innings in this ground is less than 150 in the full test innings, two through Pakistan and the incoming teams.
The batsman with the highest run in this ground is Babar Azam with an average of 57.00 runs, Mohammad Rizwan is close to his heels, which has scored an average of 70.75 runs at an innings.
A total of 37 Tests have been scored at this point, including two doubles, 270 Rahul Dravid and 237 through Salem Malik. Babar Azam and Amul Haq have set a record of most tests in the stadium with 3 centuries.
The highest contribution of the Test match at the stadium is a 323 -run stand between Aamir Sohail and Inzam -ul -Haq against the West Indies in 1997.
The most successful run here through Sri Lanka in February 2000 is 220/8. The innings was marked by Sri Lankan batsman Arjuna Ranatanga through an exhibition of courage and bravery, which maintained a traumatic hand injury and was hurt by his team’s 146 runs and caused Sri Lanka to be removed more than three faster. Ranatanga returned to the crease with her injured hand to guide her team in the past from the winning post.
The most successful Test bowler at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is Waqar Younis, with an average of 27.00 wickets for 27.00. On 20 occasions, a bowler took 5 wickets or more in the innings here, Naaman Ali and Hassan Ali have achieved this distinction twice. Mohammad Zahid scored the highest wicket record in a single Test innings with 7 wickets for 66 runs in 1996. On this basis, there are three examples of taking 10 wickets or more Tests, with the highest runs for 130 against New Zealand in 1996. Surprised when they suffered the innings defeat.
In October 1994, Ian Haley, Australia, has the highest dismissal by a wicketkeeper in the stadium in the stadium, while the highest number of victims claiming by the keeper throughout the test match is 7 through England’s Oli Pope in 2022.
This ground has the highest number of Test innings taken by a fielder in a test innings. This record was jointly held in the opening test held here in December 1993 by Zimbabwe vs. Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka Lanka’s Arnold Russell made a total of 5 caught in the match in February 2000.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has been a hunting field for debuts. In October 1994, the Australian fast bowler Damien Fleming started his test, in Pakistan’s second innings, Aamir Sohail, Anzam -ul -Haq and Saleem Malik, as their victims.
Mohammad Zahid was about to start a Test when he not only took 11 wickets in 1996 against New Zealand, but also formed a new record of most LBW dismissal by the bowler in a Test match in 8 Tests.
In October 1997, a Rawalpindi cricketer Azhar Mehmood stole in the light of his home field with an unbeaten 128 in the first Test film against South Africa. In Pakistan’s second innings, Azhar once again deported 50 in the South African bowling attack with a knock of 50, who joined a rare and selected band of a century and fifty scoring players in two innings of his first Test.
Another impressive start in this ground, though not in the Test match, was playing for the Rawalpindi U -19 team, a young Shoaib Akhtar who visited New Zealand’s U -19 party in January 1994. Shoaib took 7 Kiwi wickets for just 37 runs in New Zealand’s second innings and had 10 matches for 128.
The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was widely renovated in 2024, which increased both facilities and capacity. Now, 25,000 cricket fans can be adjusted to the stadium, which works as the main cricketing field for the twin cities of Pindi and Islamabad.
