According to local authorities, at least 13 people have lost their lives, and many people, including more than 20 young girls, have gone missing after a flash flood in some parts of Texas.
After thunderstorms and heavy rains, suddenly the flood was hit, causing the river to rise rapidly, causing people to be trapped on houses, camps and southern Central Texas. Many of the missing persons were in a summer camp when water entered before dawn.
The US National Weather Service announced a flood flood emergency for parts of Kerr County, located in the Texas Hill country, which was thrown like a feet of rain with thunderstorms with heavy rains with heavy rains with heavy rains in the northwest of San Antonio.
Dalton Rice, City Manager for the county seat, told reporters that there was too much flood or no warning before the morning, and prevents the authorities from issuing evacuation orders because Gadalp was rapidly beyond the major flood phase.
“This happened with a very short time, which could not be predicted, even with the radar,” Rice said. “This happened in less than two hours.”
The July fourth fireworks display was canceled in the entire region in floods, including Carol, where the water front site was drowned by the rain river to celebrate the Friday night planned US Independence Day.
Kerf County’s Sheriff Larry Litha told reporters that 13 people were found dead in the area, adding, “I think when this thing is over, there will be more.”
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said at a news briefing earlier that six to 10 bodies were found by adults and children, washing some cars.
Prayers to be missing
He also said that authorities were searching for 23 girls listed in more than 700 children at several summer camp sites near the shore of the Gwadalpe River when the site was submerged by flood waters around 4am local time.
Patrick said, “We are praying for all those who are missing to be found alive.”
It was unclear whether a private Christian summer camp for girls was unaccounted for or not, perhaps the victims of the deceased were eliminated through the County.
Otherwise, all other camps were safe, officials said, but the campaigors could not be immediately evacuated because the roads were made irreparable with high water. The Director of Camp Sufian said in a message read to journalists that the power, water and internet service of this facility have also been cut off.
“Everyone is doing everything in their power to get these children out,” Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly, who is a senior local elected official, said in a news briefing several hours ago.
Kelly said several scattered residential sub -divisions, recreational vehicles parks and camp grounds were severely affected.
Why no further precautions were taken with the stormy weather in the forecast, Kelly insisted that the destruction of such intensity was unexpected.
“We have a flood all the time,” he said, “We have no reason to believe that it will happen here.
Patrick said the Gwadalpe River had abducted the region during heavy rains in 26 feet (8 meters) in 45 minutes. Search teams were flying 14 helicopters and a dozen drones in the area, as well as hundreds of emergency personnel on the ground, as well as the rescue of trees and rapidly flowing water.
According to the weather service, the Lalano river passing through the adjoining Mason County has also reported the flood stage, which features a “life -threatening situation”.
With additional rainfall forecasts in the region, Patrick warned that the ongoing threat to flash floods extends from San Antonio to the next 24 to 48 hours.
Officials said the US Coast Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency personnel were activated to help local authorities to counter the crisis.
