ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Monday that New Delhi is trying to use water as a weapon against Islamabad and Pakistan will not tolerate any violation of its territorial integrity or sovereignty.
Addressing the 52nd anniversary of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), Dar, who also holds the deputy prime minister’s portfolio, said that India is trying to capture 240 million Pakistanis through “water terrorism”, which has signed a sustainable water of India.
“India cannot impose its will on Pakistan and should consider its policies again,” said Dar. He warned that any attempt to unilaterally suspend India’s actions, including the Indus Waters Agreement, would be unacceptable and contradictory.
Dar, citing the Paloma incident, accused India of aggression on the pretext of a false flag operation, and emphasized that Pakistan had responded effectively and immediately.
He emphasized that Pakistan was committed to defending its sovereignty and would not allow its rights to be compromised under international agreements. “India wants to use water as a weapon, but Pakistan is stable to protect its interests,” he said.
The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed Pakistan’s principle stance on Kashmir, calling it a global recognized conflict. “For a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue is essential for stability in the region,” he said.
Dar welcomed the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel, which confirmed Pakistan’s permanent support for Tehran’s legal status. He also emphasized that Iran’s nuclear issue should be resolved through dialogue.
Commenting on the situation in Gaza, the Foreign Minister condemned the ongoing humanitarian crisis, expressing deep concern over the atrocities in the Palestinian Enclave. He added, “Pakistan is seriously worried about the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
‘No scope for unilateral decisions’
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said in a special conversation with Geo News that the arbitration court’s decision was “very clear” and that it had left no scope for unilateral decisions through Pakistan or India under the Indus Waters Agreement.
He said the decision makes it clear that no party can take any action that disrupts the basic foundation of the agreement. “We expected India to resort to interference,” he said.
Commenting on Modi’s political future, Asif remarked: “I am sure that Narendra Modi’s political days are numbered.”
When the recent Indian soldier was asked to enter the attachment that his aircraft had been shot, Asif said, “It is possible that India may be aware of the loss of plane after the delay.”
Referring to his recent participation in the Defense Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), ASIF said there was no tension in the environment despite the presence of Indian officials.
He explained, “SCO works under the rules set up. After you end, you do not get the answer to anyone else’s speech.”
“There is no chance to criticize someone else’s comments. When they [India] Criticism was not allowed, he refused to sign a joint communication.
He added that the countries at the SCO meeting supported Pakistan’s position. “The position of India was baseless and false,” he said. “He did not receive any support in the International Forum.”
