ISLAMABAD: After the diplomatic development on the Indus Waters Treaty, a sharp war between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilal Bhutto and former Pakistan Ursi-Justice (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry on social media has begun a sharp war of words.
One day ago, Pakistan formally welcomed the additional award issued by the Permanent Court Mediation in the Hague, which maintained Pakistan’s position that India could not unilaterally suspend IWT.
The arbitration court’s decision has confirmed that unilateral steps in India do not harm the jurisdiction of a neutral expert in the proceedings under the court mediation or IWT.
In response to this development, Bilawal took the X, reiterating that the unilateral decision to suspend India’s decades -old agreement was not recognized under international law.
The former Foreign Minister wrote, “India’s unilateral decision on the Indus Water Treaty has no effect on international law.”
The statement, referring to the “attack on Sindhu”, was presented by the historical and cultural lens.
However, Fawad apparently misinterpreted the term “Sindhu” as a reference to Sindh province, and criticized Bilawal for turning the national issue into a provincial.
The former minister responded to the PPP chairman’s statement in another X post, saying that the “attack” was all over Pakistan instead of Sindh, and said that Benzir Bhutto, who is Bilawal’s mother, may not have made such a statement.
“This [is] Attack on Pakistan, not Sindh – unless you are involved in Sindh Under the GM Syed family… Bibi may never have made such a statement. “
Chaudhry’s use of Bilawal’s “Sindhu” in reference to “Sindhu Desh” was presented to connect with Sindhi nationalist rhetoric, and emphasized the name of GM Syed, which is known for advocating Sindhi separatism in the country’s political history.
But Bilawal fired in a two -way manner: “You are a fool. The Indus River is the Indus. The civilization of the Indus Valley belongs to all Pakistan.”
Providing a historical explanation, the PPP chairman said that the word Indus is a Latin version of Indus Sindhu, which was brought to English by the Greek name “Indo”, which resulted in the Persian pronunciation of Sindhu.
However, Fawad responded with a personal jaw:
“Obviously you have no knowledge of politics on Sindhu. When you become chairman of fake will and not through political process.”
After the federal government, when responding to the progress in the court of permanent arbitration, reaffirmed the resolving the issue under the IWT framework and emphasized the need for a new diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in the remarks given on June 24, also extended the olive branch to New Delhi. “Pakistan is ready to engage in meaningful dialogue with India on all residual issues, including Jammu and Kashmir, water, trade and terrorism,” he said.
After the killing of 26 people in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in April, India signed the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.
New Delhi has accused Islamabad of planning a deadly militant attack, alleging that Pakistan has denied.
On the basis of these baseless allegations, India launched a war against Pakistan last month, which had been the heaviest battle between two neighboring countries in decades, before the US ceasefire was broken and broken.
Neighbors equipped with nuclear weapons do not agree on the use of water from rivers that are flowing from India in the Basin of the Indus River in Pakistan.
The use of water is operated by the Indus Waters Agreement, which was arbitrated by the World Bank, and in September 1960, neighbors signed it.
There is no arrangement for any country to unilaterally suspend or terminate the deal, which has a clear system of dispute resolution.
