The US Federal Judge has stopped President Donald Trump’s administration’s attempt to prevent international students from studying at Harvard University.
US District Judge Elison Berros issued a preliminary order on Monday, preventing the implementation of a declaration that would prevent foreign nationals from attending or exchanging programs to attend Harvard.
Referring to Trump’s announcement and national security concerns on June 4, Foreign Secretary Marco Rubio was also instructed to consider the cancellation of visas for international students who are currently enrolled.
The decree extended a temporary order on June 5, while standing faster between the Trump administration and the IV League agency.
“At its root, it is about basic constitutional rights that should be protected: freedom of thought, freedom of expression, and freedom of speech, each of which is a pillar of democracy and is an essential hedge against dictatorship.”
He wrote, “Here, because of its efforts to overcome a leading government’s educational institution and misuse the diverse approach, they are against the administration’s own views, in some occasions, threatening those rights.”
“To further worsen matters, the government tries to meet it, at least partially, at the back of international students, with little thinking about their consequences or, finally, for their own citizens.”
In its recent academic year, about 6,800 international students studied in Harvard, which made about 27 27 % of the students’ population of Massachusetts, Mashematit Cambridge.
Trump signed the announcement when his administration had already frozen funds to the oldest and most rich US University of billions of dollars, threatened Harvard’s tax exemption status and launched several investigations in the school.
Trump said Friday that his administration could announce an agreement with Harvard to resolve the White House campaign against the “next week or more” university, which fought a legal battle against the administration’s action.
Harvard has alleged that Trump is taking retaliation against the rights of his free speech under the first amendment of the US Constitution, which has refused to follow the administration’s school rule, curriculum and its faculty and student ideology.
The university has filed two separate cases before boros, which are trying to eliminate about $ 2.5 billion in funds and prevent the administration from preventing the ability of international students to study at the university.
The latter case was filed on May 22, following the announcement of Homeland Security Secretary Christie Nom, that its department was immediately canceling Harvard’s student and Exchange Visitor Program Certification, which allows it to enter foreign students.
NOEM accused the university of “promoting violence, counteringism, and accusing the Chinese Communist Party, without providing evidence.”
Its action was immediately temporarily blocked by Bros. Although the Department of Homeland Security has moved to challenge Harvard’s certificate through a month -long administrative process, Berros said at the May 29 hearing that it officially intended to issue a stay order to maintain the stagnation on Friday.
A week after the hearing, Trump signed his announcement, citing concerns about Harvard’s foreign acceptance of foreign money, and what he said was an insufficient response to the school’s demand for information on foreign students.
His administration has accused Harvard of creating an unsafe environment for Jewish students and pressing hostility on his campus.
Protests with Palestinians with Palestinians during the war in Gaza have given birth to campus from several universities, including Harvard.
Supporters of the rights have noted the rise of hatred and Islamophobia in the United States due to war. The Trump administration has not yet announced any action on anti -Arab and anti -Muslim hatred.
Harvard’s own enmity and the Islamophobia task forces released the late April found widespread fear and prejudice at the university.
