WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said Saturday that US forces have destroyed Iran’s major nuclear sites in a major airstrike.
He described the attacks as a “amazing success” and claimed that Iran’s nuclear program had been completely abolished. Strikes targeted three key locations – nuts, Asfahan and Fordo.
After the days of consideration-and its self-styled two weeks before the last date, Trump’s decision to join the Israeli military campaign against its regional rival is a significant increase in the dispute.
“Strikes were a wonderful military success,” Trump said during a television address to the Oval Office. ” “The key facilities for Iran’s nuclear enrichment have been completely and completely eliminated.”
In a speech that lasted just three minutes, Trump said that Iran’s future now has “peace or tragedy” and warned that many other goals could be affected by the US military.
“If peace does not come quickly, we will follow the other goals that will be healthy, with speed and expertise.”
According to CBS News, the United States arrived in Iran diplomatically on Saturday, emphasizing that the strikes were the full limit of US military plans and that the Washington does not seek change of the government.
Trump said US forces have attacked three major Iranian nuclear sites: Nuttans, Asfahn and Fordo. He told Fox News that six bunker bombs were dropped on Fordo, while 30 Tamahak missiles were fired on other nuclear facilities.
US B -2 bombers participated in the strike, an American official spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Trump posted on social media, “The primary site, Fordo, was dropped a full -fledged burden.” “Fordo is gone.”
He added, “Iran should now be willing to end this war.
Earlier on Saturday, Reuters reported the movement of B -2 bombers, which were capable of carrying a type of powerful bombs needed to target deep buried sites like Fordo, located under a mountain south of Tehran.
An Iranian official has confirmed that some parts of the Fordo site have been targeted by “enemy airstrikes.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump for his “bold decision”, which would “change history.”
Netanyahu said, “History will record that President Trump has worked to deny the world’s most dangerous government to deny the world’s most dangerous weapons.”
Diplomacy fails as stress in strikes increases
US strikes surfaced when Israel and Iran were closed in a week of airstrikes, resulting in hundreds of deaths and thousands injured in both countries.
Israel said it had launched its attacks to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Iran insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
Western diplomatic efforts to end the crisis failed.
In recent times, Democratic and some Republican lawmakers in Washington argued that Trump would have to gain authority from Congress before committing US forces to fight Iran.
Chair of the Armed Services Committee, Republican Senator Roger Vicker supported the strike but said that the United States has now faced “very serious elections”.
Senator Jim Rasch, the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also, a Republican, added: “This war is an Israeli war, not our war. There will be no American shoes on earth in Iran.”
Kentucky’s representative Thomas Masi called the move “not constitutional”.
Democratic Senator Tim Kine warned that the American people have “strong opposition” against the war to fight Iran and criticized Trump for its “horrific decision”.
Israel began its campaign June 13, claiming that Iran was nearing acquisition of nuclear weapons. Israel is widely regarded as the owner of nuclear weapons, though it neither confirms nor denies it.
Referring to sources in the Ministry of Health, Iranian state media said that at least 430 people were killed and 3,500 were injured since the launch of Israeli attacks.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, in Israel, 24 civilians have been killed by Iranian missile attacks, and more than 450 missiles have been removed in the country.
Israeli authorities reported 1,272 injured, of which 14 are in critical condition.
