LONDON: Former Chief of the Premier Intelligence Agency of India – Research and Investigation Wing (RA) – Amarjit Singh Dulat has termed the recent luncheon meeting of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir with US President Donald Trump, which is very important for Pakistan.
While discussing his newly published book The Chief Minister and The Spy, Dulat gave these remarks in an exclusive interview with Geo News at Kings College.
Dalit said: “I congratulate Field Marshal Asim Munir. Congratulations to the people of Pakistan. Now he should meet Modi in the house of Hyderabad and then visit Amritsar. I am sure that hard lines can be softened. In 2015, Modi participated in Nawaz Sharif’s granddaughter.
Former Chief Indian spy agreed that relations between India and Pakistan were frozen, especially after the recent dispute but they were hopeful of this change. “Look at Field Marshal’s lunch in the United States. Whoever arranged it, sent it to Delhi. If it could happen in Washington, why not in Delhi.”
He said that in the cabinet room, Field Marshal’s lunch and for more than two hours, the US -Pakistan relations were a major development in relations. He said: “This is the first time. It is good and great for Pakistan. I congratulate Pakistan but not to stop there, to come to India too.”
Dalit said India has good relations with the United States and usually relations go up and down. He remarked: “Pakistan has always been developing in these relations, which is why Field Marshal is there.”
The former RAW advised the two countries to speak directly to each other. He said that there should be no war between India and Pakistan. “It’s good that the recent conflict continued for only four days.”
The former chief spy acknowledged that there was no direct evidence to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, which led to a dispute between the two countries armed with the two nuclear weapons. He said: “Sometimes there is no evidence of this. If they (militants) were caught, we would have evidence but they fled and disappeared, it is their job. There is no doubt in India that Pakistan had a hand in it. Intelligence failure but this is everywhere.”
Dalat said that attacking Pakistan was Prime Minister Modi’s “compulsion” and involved politics but that “there should be no war, it is dangerous”.
Former Indian Intelligence Chief praised Pakistan’s hospitality. “I am the only intelligence chief who visited Pakistan four times after retirement. Between 2010-2012 I visited four times. Pakistani hospitality cannot be contested. We can’t match it. I enjoyed it very much.”
Dollat spoke fondly with former ISI Chief General Asad Durrani about his friendship and described it as a great friend.
Field Marshal Munir, during the meeting, praised Trump for his “constructive and outcome role” in facilitating ceasefire with India after an armed conflict between two nuclear weapons -equipped neighbors last month.
The development took place when the two leaders met during a lunch in the White House cabinet room, with the US President with Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and US Special Representatives Steve Watkov in Middle East Affairs, while Islamabad’s National Security Advisor and Home Minister.
Meanwhile, the US president praised the leadership and decision -making of Field Marshal Munir during the era of complex regional dynamics, and further praised Pakistan’s efforts for regional peace and stability, and praised the strong cooperation of counter -terrorism between the two states.
