Field Marshal Asim Munir and President Donald Trump discussed the situation in Iran late Wednesday night during a lunch meeting at the White House in Washington DC.
The development took place during an unusual meeting between the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Munir and President Trump during a lunch in the White House cabinet room.
Talking to reporters after the key meeting, the US president said he had received the “honor” of meeting Field Marshal Munir. The US President said that he invited the Army Chief to thank him for ending the war with India.
Trump added, “Well, he (Pakistan) knows Iran. Mostly better,” Trump added. He added that a trade agreement with Pakistan is being discussed.
In response to another question, President Trump said he had not made a decision about proceeding to Iran and he would later hold a meeting in the White House situation.
He added that Iran wants to meet and the US team “can do so.” Trump said Israel was “performing well” in its attacks, which aims to eliminate Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The US president said he did not close the door on the occasion of meeting with Iran, adding that an agreement could still be made.
Trump added that he believes that Iran was nearing developing nuclear weapons before the attack began.
It is important to mention here that Islamabad is looking at strong ties with Washington based on geographical political facts, mutual trust, and development -based partnerships.
Addressing Geo News, former Senator and Chairman Pakistan China Institute Mushahid Hussain Syed said that US President Trump does not want tensions between Pakistan and India.
He noted that the meeting between Trump and Field Marshal Munir will be the ongoing Iranian dispute with Iran, as well as a regional situation in India.
“I am sure that Trump will want to listen to Marshall’s field analysis about the Iran -Israel war,” he said.
In response to a question, Mushahid said that Trump is expected to decide whether the United States will join the war within the next two days.
He remarked that after Pakistan’s decisive military performance, Trump now views Pakistan’s leadership with a new strategic lens. He added, “Trump has always said that he likes the winner, not losing.”
The former senator added that Trump’s meeting with the Pakistani army chief would be a “mourning in India”.
He said, “Pakistan offered a military blow to India, while the United States put a diplomatic blow,” he added, despite the Indian opposition, Trump acknowledged that the Kashmir issue must be resolved.
Earlier, former Foreign Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called the next meeting between COAS Munir and President Trump a “positive step in Pakistan-US relations”.
He wrote, “Seeing the president’s role in mediation in the ceasefire, especially.”
“After Pakistan’s decisive victory in the recent five -day war, India has expressed regret against all efforts towards permanent peace, including US -led diplomacy.”
“Pakistan neither looks for conflict nor are we anxious for dialogue. But we recognize that peace is in the interests of both countries. There is no military solution to our conflict.”
He concluded, “India’s water weapon, oppression in Kashmir, and the politics of terrorism are in volatile positions. The path ahead is in honest diplomacy – no denying.”
During his visit to the US, Munir also met with Pakistanis abroad in Washington DC a day ago.
According to the ISPR, the Army Chief praised the partnership of the country’s economy and global credibility through remittances, investment and high achievements in other domains.
