During a special investment ceremony in the House in Islamabad, President Osaf Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif jointly awarded the Chief of the Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir of the Army Staff (COAS) to the sticks of Field Marshal.
In recognition of Pakistan’s recent military clashes with India and the successful implementation of the “Operation Bonn Um-Marsos”, the federal government on Tuesday brought General Munir to the rank of Field Marshal.
The decision was made during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The government approved Koz General Munir to promote the rank of Field Marshal to ensure the security of the country and defeat the enemy through the best strategy and brave leadership during the “Operation Bonn Um-Marsus”.
The rank of Five Star, Field Marshal, is the highest position in the Pakistan Army, which has been named above a general.
Addressing the ceremony, the President said that he gathered for the honor of the nation’s armed forces and the heroes of the army, the Navy and the Air Force, who defended sovereignty, territory and integrity against the invading Indian aggression.
He added, “The whole nation is proud of all of you. The President added that it is a matter of great pleasure for him to give Pakistan a stick of Field Marshal with Koz Asim Munir with full confidence in recognizing his extraordinary services and his order and role.
He added, “I, as the President of Pakistan, thus promotes General Syed Asim Munir to the full position of Field Marshal and bless the Field Marshal sticks as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.”
Addressing the ceremony at the President’s House, Prime Minister Shahbaz said: “Today is a moment of deep national pride and historical importance for Pakistan.”
He said that he salutes his national heroes, COAS Field Marshal Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahair Shamshad Mirza, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sudhu and Chief of the Navy’s Chief for Naval Staff.
Premier added, “You have attracted our brave armed forces to a significant victory against an enemy, which is trapped in his trap of arrogance and imprisonment.”
“Our armed forces not only defended the fronts of the nation but also took the war deep into the enemy area, and at any time, the invaders were brought to their knees and taught them a lesson.”
Talking to senior journalists at the ceremony, Field Marshal praised the role of Pakistani media during the Pakistan-India war and said: “Media is proud of us. You have told the world that we just speak the truth.”
He said that the press is the fourth pillar of the state. Field Marshal told reporters, “You fought with us.”
Operation Bonean Um-Marsus
The Pakistan Armed Forces launched a massive retaliation, called “Operation Bonyan Um-Marsus”, and targeted several Indian military targets in several regions.
The strikes described by the personnel as “precise and proportional” were carried out in response to India’s continued aggression in the Line of Control (LoC) and Pakistan, which New Delhi claimed that “terror targets” were aimed at.
Pakistan dropped six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale, and dozens of drones. After at least 87 hours, the agitated war by India ended May 10 with a ceasefire agreement by the United States.
According to the ISPR, during the recent military confrontation, Indian strikes, including 13 personnel and 40 civilians, were involved in a total of 53 people, including 13 people.
