On Wednesday, China warned that the US president announced a $ 25 billion announcement in preliminary financial support for the project, Donald Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile shield system “global stability”.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said in a regular news briefing, “This has overlooked global strategic balance and stability. China expresses serious concern over it. We urge the United States to abandon the development and deployment of the global missile defense system as soon as possible.”
Trump on Tuesday announced the allocation of $ 25 billion for the project, which he said could eventually cost about $ 175 billion and will work in about three years.
“In the campaign, I promised the American people that I would develop a missile defense shield,” Trump said in the White House on Tuesday. “Today I am happy to declare that we have officially chose architecture for this sophisticated system.”
“Once the full construction, the Golden Dome will be able to stop missiles, even if they are launched from other sides of the world, and even if they are launched from space,” Trump said.
“This is very important for the success of our country and even survival.”
He said the US Space Force General Michael Gatlin would lead the effort, and Canada has expressed interest in being a part of it because “he too wants to get protection.”
While Trump has a total price about $ 175 billion, the Congress Budget Office has estimated the cost of space -based interceptors to defeat a limited number of intercontinental ballistic missiles in 20 years.
The Golden Dome has a wider target, “Trump says,” It will deploy the next generation technologies to the entire land, sea and place, including space -based sensors and interceptors. “
The Pentagon’s chief, Pet Hegasith, spoke to Trump, saying the system was aimed at “cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, drones, whether they are traditional or nuclear.”
China, Russia against the Golden Dome
In response, Beijing condemned the move on Wednesday, in which it was labeled for global security and accused the United States of inciting arms race.
The project’s golden dome is named from Israel’s Iron Dome Air Defense System, which has stopped thousands of small range rockets and other projects since it went into work in 2011.
The United States faces various missile threats by opponents, but it is designed to counter Israeli Iron Dome.
The 2022 missile defense review identified the increasing threats from China and Russia.
The document states that when it comes to ballistic and hypersonic missile technology, Beijing is eliminating this gap with Washington, while Moscow is modernizing its intercontinental missile system and developing advanced precision strike missiles.
It also states that the threat of drones-which has played a key role in the Ukraine war-increases its chances, and has warned of the threat of ballistic missiles from North Korea and Iran, as well as rockets and missile threats of non-state actors.
Beijing expressed “serious concern” over the project on Wednesday, saying it reduced “global strategic balance and stability”.
“The United States puts its interests in its own interests first and is looking for its absolute security, which violates the principle that the security of any country does not come to the expense of others,” Mao said in a briefing.
Mao added, “The (plan) increases the threat of becoming a battlefield, fueling arms race, and provoking international security.”
This month, China added to Russia in criticizing the notion as a “deep instability”.
A statement published by the Kremlin after the talks between the two sides said that “it” has provided significant strength of weapons for war operations in space. “
In recent years, the United States has gained real world experience in defense against missiles and drones.
In Ukraine, the US system has been used to counter modern Russian missiles, while US aircraft and warships helped defend Israel against the Iranian attacks last year, and has repeatedly shot missiles and drones launched by Yemen’s Tehran -backed Houthi rebels.
