Ukrainian President Wolodmeer Zillsky on Tuesday accused Russia of deliberately delaying peace talks in his three -year attack, even as US President Donald Trump immediately pressured the ceasefire.
Following the first direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials in the three years in Istanbul last Friday, Trump made separate phone calls with both Zelinski and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
Despite diplomatic efforts, Russia has not given any privileges. Putin Kiev and his Western partners support the 30 -day proposed fire.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called on Tuesday that Trump did not offer any privileges to Putin during his two -hour talks.
Zillski posted on social media, “It is evident that Russia is trying to buy time to continue its war and occupation.”
However, Trump described his latest conversation with Putin as a breakthrough in the peace process.
The Republican is seeking a passionate agreement to end the war that he promised to resolve the election campaign within 24 hours.
But Putin once again rejected the demand for a complete, quick and unconditional ceasefire, rather than that he is ready to work with Ukraine on the “memorandum” that offers a possible roadmap and various positions in connection with the end of the war.
Moscow is feeling confident, its troops are moving on the battlefield, and almost three years after removing the Kremlin chief, Trump started a dialogue with Putin.
“The memorandum buys time for Russia,” Russian political analyst Constanton Kalachov told AFP.
He added, “Eliminating hostility is not a prerequisite, which means Russia can continue its aggressive.”
Zelinski said on Monday that he had no details about what he would have this “memorandum” but he was ready to see Russia’s views.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and since then it destroyed the east harvest, killing tens of thousands of people and now controlling near fifth of its area.
Trump has no ‘Messiah’
People who spoke to AFP in both Kiev and Moscow were skeptical about the possibility of peace, and they believed that the Putin Trump call did not bring them closer.
“I never had any confidence in it and now I had no one,” when asked if he was losing trust in Trump, a retired teacher Victoria Casileva told AFP in Kiev.
Vietzal, a 53 -year -old engineer from Kiev, said that Trump was not a “Messiah” and that his diplomacy flared has changed rarely.
Ukrainian political analyst Wolodmeer Fasenko said Trump’s latest calls have only increased uncertainty.
“This conversation not only failed to clarify the future of negotiations, but is further confusing the situation,” he said.
He said that Trump had fallen on the tactics of trying to use Putin’s negotiations “as a cover to continue and intensify the war”.
In Moscow, there was notoriety and confidence.
“I am sure we don’t need these talks. We will win anyway,” the 70 -year -old former engineer, Marina, told AFP.
Pushing restrictions
Ukraine and Europe are trying to put pressure on Trump to impose a new package of widespread sanctions to impose on Moscow when Putin refuses to travel to Turkey to face with Zilinski.
Kiev accused Moscow negotiators of making unrealistic demands in Istanbul talks, including clear regional claims that Ukraine has repeatedly rejected.
Zlinski said on Monday that Kiev and his allies needed to “work hard” to persuade Trump on the need for further sanctions.
On Tuesday, the European Union formally adopted its 17th round on Moscow, targeting 200 ships of Russia’s so -called Shadow Marine fleet, and drawing Ara from Russia.
“Western politicians and media are making titanic efforts to disrupt the constructive dialogue between Russia and the United States,” said Kerala Dmitrio, head of Russia’s direct investment fund and economic negotiator with the United States.
Russia has successfully faced sanctions, in which India and China have been resolved to supply their significant oil and gas.
Trump has proposed a “mass trade” with Russia once the war ended, but US top diplomat Marco Rubio denied Tuesday that Trump had offered privileges.
Rubio said about Putin, “He has not received a single privilege.”
Russia’s key ally China said on Tuesday that it also supported direct dialogue between the opposition parties.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said, “It is hoped that the relevant parties will work with this dialogue … to reach a festival, will reach an acceptable, lasting and lasting peace deal for all parties.”
