After Russia and Ukraine have had the first direct talks for peace for more than three years, the Kremlin said a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his counterpart, Woldmeer Zelinski would be possible if the two countries reached an agreement.
Local officials said that after the talks, a mini -bus was attacked on a Russian drone in which civilians were evacuated in the eastern Sami region, killing nine people and injuring five.
“Yesterday, like any day of the war, there was a chance to stop the fire,” Zilnsky wrote on social media after the attack, adding that “Russia only maintains the opportunity to continue the killing”.
He called on Ukrainian allies to increase sanctions on Moscow.
The Ukrainian president said, “Without strict sanctions, without severe pressure on Russia, there will be no real diplomacy.”
Immediately after the spring of 2022, the first direct conversation-Moscow’s full-scale attack. Later in February, a solid agreement was signed in Istanbul to exchange 1,000 prisoners between Ukraine and Russia.
Defense Minister Rustam Omarov said the “next step” will be a meeting between Zelinski and Putin.
Russia said it took a note on the request.
“We consider it possible, but only as a result of work and getting some results in the form of an agreement between the two sides,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
Russia’s top negotiator, Vladimir Mednsky, said Moscow and Kiev would “present their views on the future possible ceasefire”, without saying it.
The Kremlin said the first POW exchange must be completed and the two parties need to present their view for a ceasefire before fixing the next round of negotiations.
“Right now, we need to do the same tomorrow,” said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said spokesman Dmitry Peskov, spokesman Dmitry Peskov, “This means, of course, first and a thousand to complete a thousand for a thousand exchange.”
Ukrainian military intelligence chief Kerillo Budanov told Broadcaster TSN he hopes the exchange will take place next week and has not seen any barrier to exchange.
Fighting is ongoing
On Saturday, there were some signs of progress towards preventing the fighting.
Local community chief Yuri Zarco told SPELIN TV that the bus was attacked near the city of Bilupia. A family of three people was killed in the attack, officials said.
Somewhere on the front lines, the Russian army said its troops occupied the village of Olsandopal in the eastern Donetsk region, where the most intense fighting continued.
In addition to Sami, Russia fired missiles and drones across eastern Ukraine, killing Khusson, Kharko, and Zapirzia areas, killing six people and injuring more than a dozen. In Kherson, Russian shelling targeted a truck with humanitarian aid on Saturday morning.
Real steps are required
French President Emmanuel Macron said he believed that US counterpart Donald Trump would react to Putin’s “adultery” on Ukraine after the deadly Manebus attack.
Putin refuses to travel to Turkey for the meeting. Zlinski accused him of “frightened” and Russia not to talk “seriously”.
“In Istanbul yesterday, yesterday, everyone saw a weak and ready -made Russian delegation with no special power. It has to change. We need real steps to end the war.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the results of Istanbul’s talks during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Saturday, adding that the Russian Foreign Ministry added that Moscow is ready to continue working with the United States on the issue.
On Friday, Zilnski attended a European summit in Albania where he emphasized the “strong reaction” from the world if Istanbul’s talks failed, including new sanctions.
Macron said European countries are in harmony with additional sanctions with Washington, should Moscow deny the “unconditional ceasefire”.
Both Moscow and Washington have discussed the need for a meeting between Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Trump has argued that “nothing is going to happen” on the dispute until he comes face to face with Putin.
During the Istanbul talks, the Ukrainian party said Russia was making “unacceptable” regional demands.
Moscow has claimed to have occupied five Ukrainian territories since the 2022 attack, and Crimea, which he had affiliated with in 2014.
