ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan has said that the party is in alliance with Parliament and Parliament system, not just with PMLN.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said, “PPP has been linked to the system and democracy, not the government.
In response to the Punjab Government’s Information Minister, Chen said that PMLN is not the only representative of Punjab. He said, “PMLN can be the heir to General Ziaol Haq and General Jilani, but not Punjab because heritage does not sell the properties of people worth billions.”
Chen added that the country is currently facing many challenges. He said that PPP is ready to discuss the water issue while talks with the government are underway on political issues.
Chaudhry Manzoor said that PPP never talked about the division and was not in the party point scoring, but the PPP always protects the rights of the people. He said that the PPP wants to move all parties to the board and move forward on issues like terrorism and canals.
He asked if there was a shortage of water already, then where would the water of the new canals come from?
PPP senior leader Chaudhry Manzoor said he had raised four to five questions before the Prime Minister on the water issue, of which only one was answered.
Chaudhry Manzoor said that he had asked the Prime Minister that it was the first question that it was written in the IRSA Act that whenever a water problem arises, a meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) will be convened. He asked, “One year has passed since the government came to power, but why not a council meeting has been called.”
He said that there was a lot of color and crying that President Asif Ali Zardari had approved. Explaining the situation, the PPP leader said that the president approves two things: If Parliament passes a law, or the government sends it to the ordinance.
CH Manzoor said that Rana Sanaullah answered the question yesterday that neither the project was approved by the ECNEC nor the Council of Common Interests, nor the President approved it. “Our position is that after the 18th Amendment, the President has no authority to approve any administrative work,” he said.
He said the third question was that the government was trying to snatch the water of poor farmers and allocate it to the corporate sector. He said that according to the IRSA document, the existing canals are already facing water shortages. He asked, “Where will the water of the new canals come from?”
The PPP leader said he claims that these canals will be provided flood water. He added that floods are found in July, August and September for two to three months, then what will happen to these canals for the remaining nine months.
He said that reverse engineering is taking place in Pakistan for the first time. The construction of construction from where the canal emerges all over the world, they have started construction from Cholistan.
Chaudhry Manzoor said that he had asked the Chief Minister of Punjab, but no response has been received so far as to whom the canal will be closed and this water will be given to the Cholistan Canal.
He said that according to an IRSA report, Punjab is facing 43pC water shortage, 80 to 90pc drinking water comes from underground in Punjab, while Sindh is facing the problem that 80 to 90pc drinking water comes from rivers and lakes.
This is their sensitivity and this problem needs to be viewed on humanity and not under a formula.
He said that the PPP stands against the injustice with the oppressed farmers of all the affected districts which the Punjab government is going to do with the farmers of Punjab through corporate farming. They will hold demonstrations with farmers on this water issue where they need.
He said that the farmers are already struggling and if the crops are not sown, what will happen to the food shortage. “Farmers are already facing problems and PPP stands with them as usual,” he said. He added that PPP stands firmly with the farmers on the water issue.
