During the ongoing protests against the construction of six new canals on the Indus and the obstruction of the highways, the provincial chief minister Murad Ali Shah called on the protesters on Tuesday to remain peaceful and that the passengers and the common people had problems.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, CM Murad said: “Lawyers and nationalists should continue their protest without bothering their own people.”
He said that the PPP and the protesters also share the same purpose, adding that if their party ongoing talks with the federal government were fruitless, their party would also protest.
In February this year, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched a Green Pakistan move in Cholistan, which aims to revolutionize agriculture and provide farmers with agricultural facilities under one roof.
The project mobilized a wave of unrest throughout Sindh, and in March, the Provincial Assembly unanimously approved a resolution against the construction of six new canals on the Indus River. Meanwhile, the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and other nationalist parties took to the streets and staged mass rallies in different cities of the province including Karachi.

He added, “Sindh government and PPP will not allow the canal project to build with the power of the people.”
The CM maintained that work on the canal project has been halted since 2024, and the approval of the project has been pending since November last year. He wondered why the project was not abandoned.
He said, “Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is also aware of the serious consequences of the canal project,” he said and hoped that the Prime Minister would work with justice.
Protests in Karachi

Sanaullah said, “What Bilawal said in a public gathering was said to be in the throes of speech.”
He emphasized the ban in political dialogue and reminded him of mutual respect. He added, “There is no need to react to Bilawal’s request. The statements should remain within the limits, and others should be shown respect and dignity.”
Memon echoed the federal government’s stance on the talks and reaffirmed the province’s concerns. He said, “The problem of the canal is a cause for public concern,” he added: “The Sindh government is representing the people of Sindh.”
Memon added that objections to the canal plan were raised on several occasions and forums. “If the federal government wants to discuss the matter, it is welcomed,” he said. PPP will definitely advocate for the people of Sindh. “
Meanwhile, protests in Sindh are interrupted. Memon appealed to the protesters to protest responsibly. “Demonstrators have been requested to keep their protests on the basis, not to stop the roads, but the common people are being harmed,” he said.
