Pakistan Tehreek -e -Insaf (PTI) workers clashed with law enforcement near Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday, in which police arrested several workers and leaders.
The clash took place at Gorakhpur Chowk, where PTI workers shouted slogans and shouted slogans after the party leaders refused to allow the party’s founder to meet Imran Khan.
In response, police resorted to sticks, accusing the protesters, while PTI supporters threw stones at law enforcement personnel. During the repetition, several PTI leaders and workers were taken into custody.
The situation was dismissed after the leader’s opposition in the National Assembly when Omar Ayub intervened and assured the police of cooperation.
Police also detained Imran’s sisters – Emma Khan and Azma Khan – and PTI leader Aaliyah Hamza. The PTI ally and SIC chief Sahibzada were also among the detainees.
However, he was released hours later and left for his cousin Qasim Niazi as well as his residence.
Sources told Geo News that Raza had also left in Alima’s car.
All the men got out of the vehicle near the Chakran Interchange on the motorway and went to their private car.
The sisters of the PTI founder visited Adiala Jail to meet their brothers but they were barred from entering the jail premises.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar strongly condemned the arrests, saying that the court has clearly ordered that the family be allowed to meet the PTI founder.
Barrister Gohar termed the sisters of the PTI founders as “illegal and unconstitutional” and emphasized that no judicial order has imposed conditional conditions for such meetings.
“We did not stone the police nor called for any protest,” he added. We just came here to support the PTI founder’s sisters. “
Separately, sources told Geo News that police allegedly stopped the vehicle carrying detained people at a short distance from Adiala Jail. According to police officials, “You are not being taken to the police station – please go back to your homes.”
However, according to sources, the sisters of the PTI founder and Aaliyah Hamza refused to leave. He allegedly said, “If you have taken us into custody, take us to the police station.”
‘Permission to meet now’
Earlier, Adiala Jail authorities prevented the family of the PTI founder’s family from meeting him.
Imran sisters – Emma and Azma Khan – and Qasim Khan Niazi were barred from entering the jail premises.
In a statement, Alima said he did not understand why the authorities were panic. “This is just one family here, no one else.”
He alleged that authorities have said that the family will not be allowed to meet the PTI founder. “We are not allowed to go in. Why not?” He asked the question.
Alima revealed that the family members were denied the meeting for three consecutive weeks. “Today, once again, the police have been deployed here to prevent us from meeting it.”
“In such situations, if we don’t worry, then what else should we feel?” He asked.
He added that if they were not allowed to meet the PTI founder, they would continue to sit outside the jail. He added, “We are very upset. Three weeks have passed and we are still unable to meet him.”
Last month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) restored two weekly meetings with the PTI founder, which allowed them to take place on Tuesday and Thursday.
However, the court strictly banned any media conversation after these meetings. It has ruled that no one who met the founding chairman of the PTI will be allowed to talk to the media after that.
In addition, only those whose names are provided by the PTI founder’s coordinator, Salman Akram Raja will be allowed to meet.
Earlier, Alima had expressed concern over a limited access to his brother.
Reacting to the meeting of the PTI leaders with the former Prime Minister, he expressed regret over the implementation of the election sanctions, saying that jail officials have clearly stated that family meetings are not allowed during the holidays.
He said in a post on X, “Yesterday, April 1, a gazette holiday, and we were not allowed to meet our brother. The last time we saw him on March 20. On March 27, we were also refused,” he said in a post on March 27, “he said in a post on March 27.
Alima further asked why others have been accessed while family members have been restricted – citing Imran’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpur and Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif.
“Is there just gazette holiday restrictions for the family? We are not allowed to meet Imran, and he has been barred from talking to his sons.”
