KARACHI: President Sindh Squash Association Adnan Asad has said that he will organize a squash event with a $ 200,000 prize amount in Karachi next year.
“We have planned this major incident in Karachi in January next year and the technical director of the World Squash Body has already inspected the venue in this regard,” Adnan told the media.
He added that next year, some of the major PSA international squash programs have been planned to present a positive picture of the country only. Adnan was inaugurated in the U23 World Squash Championship host rights, which is being held in Karachi from April 6-10.
Adnan said, “We are excited to host the U -23 World Squash Championship. It is a great success and opportunity to show the city of Karachi for Pakistan Squash and show the world that Pakistan is open to squash business.
He added that he has achieved a milestone by hosting this World Championship and has proved that the country is safe with standard places for such a big event and will now pave the way for a high prize for international events in the future.
In addition, Kazim Anwar, a businessman and former Sindh Squash Association official, has also planned a major PSA program in Dubai or Beijing. “I am a squash promoter based in the United Arab Emirates and want to hold an international squash tournament in Dubai and Beijing by my confidence. [Kazim Anwar Trust]. I’m also talking to PSA in the UK, “Kazim said in a comment on an international website on Squash Development.
It is worth mentioning here that Kazim contacted Legendary Squash Player Qamar Zaman last year and asked him to guide him because he wants to support talented local players and train them through Egyptian coaches.
“I organized a meeting with PSF officials and asked him to work with PSF because the federation is currently facing a financial crisis,” Qamar told The News.
Qamar added that in addition to sharing travel costs, Kazam also wanted to arrange Egyptian coaches for local players. But it seems that Kazim could not reach an agreement with the PSF and thus focused on conducting international events outside Pakistan.
A famous industrialist, who served as Secretary SSA a long time ago, has always expressed interest in supporting squash in Pakistan at any form and thus he established an academy at Roshan Khan Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in Karachi in 2015.
He contributed with Jahangir Khan for the Champion Hunt Initiative program for Squash (Chips) and pledged to a dozen players from all over the country to facilitate them to participate in housing, food, benefits, equipment and national and international events. The players were training with Asif Khan and Abdul Rahman and the academy was planned for 3 to 5 years. The selected players were then sent to participate in the Malaysian Junior Open Squash Championship, which will cost more than Rs 1.5 million in Panang by June 1-6, 2015.
But his poor performance disappointed the Qazam, yet Jahangir asked the sponsor to give the players incentives to qualify for the final in the championship. Under the move, the selected players were not happy with coaches, accommodation, monthly stipends and equipment. He also complained of absence of competition.
The players did not like Asif Khan’s coaching style, while Abdul Rahman was fired by the Academy officials shortly after the start of the academy, which affected the program. Moreover, the players showed their reservations on the kit in their scholarship from Rs 5000 to Rs 200,000 every month. The top players of the academy went to their hometown and did not return.
“Kazim believed that the academy or chips were closed due to accountability issues, while the selected players were also very disappointing and cheap.”
