Director Soperko, Dr. Mohammad Farookone, said on Friday that Pakistan will send its first astronaut to the space under the recently signed agreement between the Space and Upper Atom Spare Research Commission (Soparco) and the China Mand Space Agency (CMSA).
Addressing the Geo News program “Geo Pakistan”, he said that the deal has been finalized in the Prime Minister’s house and that the Pakistani astronaut will travel to China Space Station (CSS), which is the first foreign astronaut to do so.
He said how the talks about implementing the move have been going on for some time, adding: “Our first Pakistani astronaut will be sent to China Space Station.”
Dr Farooq said that the selection procedure has now started during 2025 and will be finalized. Initially, the basic choice will be made based on the nominations received, after which the secondary diagnosis will be, and eventually two astronauts will be selected.
The selected individuals will receive comprehensive training in 2026, which is associated with the standard of training for international astronauts. They will travel to China’s astronaut Training Center and go through a year’s preparation.
Dr. Farooq said that the environment at the space station is quite different due to microorganisms, and the body has to be adjusted to new physical conditions. Strict protocols related to the amount of food and daily routine require significant adjustments, and this training will cover all the domains needed for sync before the space station for a week.
Dr. Farooq said the deal with China is an important moment. “So far, only Chinese astronauts have just gone to China space stations,” he said. This is the first time a foreign astronaut has had this opportunity. ” “This shows the depth of the openness of Chinese authorities to adjust Pakistan -China friendship and our participation.”
According to Dr. Farooq, astronauts are usually selected from experienced pilots or scientists. The eligible candidates will include Soparo scientists or experienced Pakistani pilots. Age standards are between 30 and 45 years, and candidates should meet the specific height and weight requirements, should be normal approach (no color blindness), and should be male for this mission.
Academic qualifications can be from diploma holders and undergraduates to PhD holders. Physical fitness and mental attention will be preferred. The internal choice will be made of Sopar’s scientists and experienced pilots.
Another important aspect of the mission includes scientific experiments at the space station, Dr. Farooq said. Sopko plans to open the opportunity for the public, including students and members of the general public, suggest experiments in the microority environment.
He said that during the mission, these suggestions would be promoted and considered for implementation.
According to an official statement released in February, Soparco and CMSA signed a cooperation agreement, under which two Pakistani astronauts will be trained at the Chinese astronaut Center.
A selected astronaut will be trained as a scientific payload specialist, who is preparing special research at China Space Station.
The astronaut election will be completed by 2026, which aims to fly in the next mission according to the CSS plan.
The mission will include scientific and scientific experiments in biological and medical studies, aerospace, applied physics, fluid mechanics, space radiation, environment, material sciences, micrograted studies, and astronomy.
The CSS is equipped with experimental racks and external adapters for multi -domain research in these fields, the statement said. The results from experiments are expected to help medical research, environmental surveillance and space technology.
