Madrid: Real Madrid coach Carlo Aniloti’s tax fraud trial was wrapped in Spain on Thursday, with a government prosecutor that he would be jailed for four years and nine months on charges of hiding income from the tax office.
Anasloti – who has won five Champions League trophy with Real Madrid as a coach – he is accused of failing to pay more than one million euros ($ 1.1 million) due to unpaid income from image rights in 2014 and 2015 during his first magic at the club.
Prosecutors have alleged that the 65 -year -old has established a “confusion” and “complex” system of shell companies to hide their extra income from their image rights and other sources like real estate, and only reported their salary.
“We consider fraud, hide, and prove the mistake,” the lead prosecutor told the High Court of Justice in Madrid.
He maintained his demand that Enlossotti be sent to jail for four years and nine months. Under Spain’s legal system, prosecutors can include charges, and change the evidence they depend on the evidence presented during the trial.
The 65 -year -old Ansloti deliberately denied tax fraud when he took a stand on the first day of the trial on Wednesday. He told the court that on the club’s advice, a firm was set up when he joined Real Madrid so that he could collect his annual salary of six million euros annually in image rights, and he never realized that he could allow him to pay less tax.
“At that time, all the players and coaches were doing this, it seemed like it was to do the right thing,” he said. Real Madrid coach said, “I never realized that nothing was good” when the public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into its financial affairs by 2018.
During his closing arguments on Thursday, Ensaloti’s lawyer, Carlos Zabala, said Real Madrid was responsible for the “contract nonsense”, which tried to pay some part of his salary through imaging rights because of his client’s problems so that he could impose “more easy tax”.
He added, “Mr. Esiloti did not fully understand what he was signing.” Zabala said the matter could have been settled without a trial, but Spanish tax officials wanted to present insanity for “public humiliation”.
The previous cases related to footballers have faced suspended sentences, often through a settlement outside the court. Spain has cracked down on football stars in recent years who have not paid. Mourinho was sentenced to one year suspension in 2019 after being convicted of tax fraud.
Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were found guilty of tax evasion and were sentenced to jail, who was first forgiven for being guilty. Colombia superstar artist Shakira agreed to a three -year suspension sentence in 2023 and paid 7.3 million euros for fixing the tax fraud case and avoiding the trial.
Prosecutors accused the “hips scolding lying” singer on income between 2012 and 2014 accused the Spanish state of cheating 14.5 million euros, the allegations denied, saying that Spain had just gone to full time in 2015.
