Yozong County: The death toll has risen to 18 due to forest fires in the South Korean southeastern region, as thousands of firefighters have been helped with the efforts of one of the worst forests in the country in decades.
The government said that the deadly forest fire has spread rapidly and forced more than 27,000 inhabitants to flee their homes.
Due to strong winds and dry weather, the flames destroyed the entire palaces, closed schools and forced the authorities to move hundreds of prisoners from prisons.
Acting President Han Dick Soo said, “We are deploying all available personnel and goods in response to the worst forest fire, but the situation is not good.”
According to the Ministry of Security, 14 people were killed in a forest fire starting in Yosong County on Wednesday, while four other deaths were connected to another fire in Sancheng County, according to the Ministry of Security.
Local police officer’s son Chang Ho said many of the people who were killed were killed in the 60s and 70s.
The Yuzong fire, which is only 68 % and has grown over winds, shows the “unimaginable” scale and speed, said Lee Bong Doo, a forest destruction expert at the National Institute of Forest Science.
The Ministry of Security Ministry said that dry conditions are expected to remain in the region affected by the forest fire on Wednesday.
Climate change is likely to make the forest fire more frequently, citing the extraordinary time of forest fire, citing some parts of Los Angeles in January and referring to the recent forest fire in northeastern Japan.
“We have to acknowledge that large -scale forest fires are increasing, and we need more resources and trained workforce,” he told Reuters.
South Korea relies on helicopters to help extinguish the forest fire due to its mountainous regions, but Lee said other fire extinguishers need to bring in the airplane and drones that can run at night.
The Korea Forest Service said it had grounded all its firefighting helicopters while trying to crash in a helicopter on Wednesday. According to the Yun Hop News Agency, the pilot was killed in the accident.
Video footage from the scene showed that the shape of a twisted body appears along with the debris scattered on the side of a hill as well as smoking. Authorities said the investigation was being investigated due to the accident.
The agency has faced technical problems with its 48 Russian helicopter fleet. The Ukraine was out of work from last year for not importing parts from Russia due to sanctions related to war, a lawmaker from Yun Jon Biving, Democratic Party, said in October using forest service data.
Korea Forest Service spokesman Kim Jong Gun said the agency plans to secure more forest -fighting helicopters, responding to criticism of the shortage of goods and helicopters on the ground.
He said 4,919 firefighting personnel were being deployed on Wednesday, including hundreds of police officers and military units, while 87 helicopters were being used.
