Ottawa: Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney called on a Snap election on Sunday, April 28, seeking a strong mandate because his country is fighting the trade war and threatening to affiliate with US President Donald Trump.
“I have just requested that the Governor -General dissolve the Parliament and demand elections on April 28. He agreed,” Carney said, citing a representative of King Charles III in Canada, a member of the British Commonwealth.
“There is more to do to make Canada secure. To invest in Canada, to build Canada, to unite Canada. That’s why I am asking for a strong positive mandate from my fellow Canadians. I have just requested that the Governor -General dissolve the Parliament and demanded the election, and he agreed to the election, and he agreed with the name of the General.
Although the next elections were not taking place until October 20, Carney is hoping to take advantage of a remarkable recovery from his Liberal Party in the aftermath of January, when Trump and former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau began threatening to declare his resignation.
Carney, a two -time former main banker, who had no experience in the former political or election campaign, was convicted of the liberal leadership two weeks ago, and he was the best person to deal with Trump.
Now he has five weeks left to win Canadian people. The elections suggest that the liberals, who have been in power since 2015 and are badly behind the opposition’s conservatives at the beginning of the year, are now ahead of their rivals.
“We moved from elections where people wanted to change an election that is much more about leadership,” said Daryl Breaker, CEO of IPSOS Public Affairs.
“Conservatives’ ability to attack liberals has decreased,” he said on the phone, because people are focused on here and now and nearby future, what has happened in the last 10 years. “
Conservatives have tried to present Carney as an elite, which plans to continue the policy of the Trudeau era of higher government spending. He also accused him of how he transferred his personal financial assets into blind confidence.
Last week, when Karni asked about the trust, he accused the reporter of demanding engage in “conflict and sick will”. Conservatives may hope that Carney can stumble during this campaign.
The key to any victory will be mainly in the French -speaking province of Quebec. Carney was facing problems at a press conference when asked to respond in the French language, the first question was misunderstood and then answered in English.
On the other hand, the conservative leader Perry Palever speaks flawless French and is an experienced politician who has contested seven elections.
Laura Stephenson, a professor of politics at Western University in the Canadian city of London, said that in view of Trump’s factor, Carni’s inexperience could not be so important.
“There is a different kind of comparison that is being made right among the leaders and what they are able to do,” he said. “I have a feeling that we will see a little more grace than the politicians are generally given during this campaign.”
