Istanbul: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Turkish authorities will not be done by “Street Terror” after the unrest on the arrest of Akim Amoglo, the powerful mayor of Istanbul’s powerful opposition, will not be done by “Street Terror”.
Erdogan said, “Turkish Street will not surrender to terrorism,” Erdogan said that the central opposition leader CHP called for a nationwide protest on Friday, after which the move was condemned on Friday as a “rebellion”.
Erdogan warned, “I should say it out loud and clear: The streets protests that the CHP leader have demanded is a dead end.”
The central political rival of the 53-year-old Mayor-Jordan was arrested on Wednesday, a few days ago when he was nominated for the CHP candidate for the 2028 presidential race.
According to the AFP count, the move gave rise to a two -day protest in Istanbul and rapidly spread to at least 32 of the 81 provinces of Turkey.
CHP leader Ozgur Ozil has called for a third night protest outside the Istanbul City Hall in 1730 GMT, urging protesters to collide on the streets across Turkey at the same time, yet the Minister of Justice warned that such calls were “illegal and unacceptable”.
On Friday, the governor of Istanbul closed the Galata Bridge and the Ataturk Bridge, crossing the Golden Horn Estori, and is the main path to access to the historic Peninsula where the City Hall is located.
Thousands of people have denied the protests in Istanbul at night outside the city hall. On Friday, authorities extended the ban to the capital Ankara and the western coastal city of Izmir.
AFP representatives said that police initially prevented but fired rubber bullets and tears while fighting with students in Istanbul and Ankara on Thursday.
Turkish media said that at least 88 protesters have been arrested so far, Interior Minister Ali Yarlaika has said that 16 police officers have been injured.
He said that the police had also considered 54 more people “hated” for online posts.
‘Opposition Drama’
At the end of Thursday, Erdogan removed the unrest – the worst streets of Turkey in the years – which was slightly higher than the “opposition dramas”.
But he had already accused the opposition leader of “serious irresponsibility” with his speech on Friday.
Ozel expressed his commitment on Thursday that the protest would continue.
He told the crowd in the city hall, “From now on, no one should expect politics in the Halls or buildings, we will be on the streets and in squares.”
The Kurdish Nawaz Opposition Dam Party also said it would attend the Istanbul rally on Friday.
Officials said that Amoglo and six others were investigating to “help a terrorist organization”. That is, the prohibited Kurdish PK’s militant group. He is also in a graft investigation, which includes about 100 other suspects.
Local media said investigators allegedly started questioning Amoglo on Friday afternoon, local media said that all the suspects were coming to court on Sunday morning.
Basic
Despite the detention of Amoglo, the CHP vowed that she would move forward with her primary on Sunday, which she would formally nominate her candidate for the 2028 race.
The party said it would open the process to anyone who wants to vote not only to the members of the party, not just the party members, saying: “Come to the ballot box and ‘no’ to try the rebellion!”
Observers said the government could try to stop the primary to stop further support for Amgolo.
Gonol Toll, head of the Turkish Studies Program at the Middle East Institute, Washington, told AFP, “If a large number of people show and vote to Amoglovo, it will give it a domestic legal status.”
“It can really move things in the direction that Erdogan does not want.”
Internet Axis Monitor Angelivib said that since Friday morning, sanctions have been imposed on social media and Internet access.
The move against Amoglo has a heavy blow to the Turkish lira, and on Friday the Best 100 stock exchange was trading less, which was flowing 6.63 % immediately after 1200 GMT.
