Alan Pompeo is no stranger to make headlines, but his latest comments about Gary’s Anatomy co -star Patrick Dempsey have taken the Internet through the storm.
The actress, who played the role of Dr. Meridith Gray in 19 seasons, recently sat for an interview to her father, where she considered her salary negotiations and gender salaries in Hollywood.
Discarding the early days of the show, Pompeo pointed out that Dempsey, who photographed Dr. Derek Shepherd, initially earned more than that – nevertheless, the show’s attention around his character is the focus of the show.
“He did 13 pilots before me. Nothing for him personally, in general, only one person can have only 13 failed TV pilots and his reference continues to grow, okay?” He gave remarks.
However, he quickly added, “But with all justice, his reference was what it was. He was a bigger star than that.
Pompeo made it clear that his disappointment was not with the Dempsey but with the network that reduced his contribution to the show.
He explained, “I was not salty about getting it. I was salty that he did not value me as much as he appreciated it.”
“I see how much work works for Gray’s Anatomy ABC/Disney. I get to see this number. This is my face, this is my voice … I am the Disney Princess of this franchise.”
As expected, Pompeo’s comments incited the heated debate online. While some people supported them to speak out against salaries in Hollywood, others accused him of taking unnecessary jaws in Dempsey.
Critics on X (formerly Twitter) described their comments as “bitter”, in which a user claimed, “She was no one before the show, and the show made it rich and famous … now trying and Patrick didn’t really need it.”
Another wrote, “He is still a celebrity, and he is still no one!” When someone else commented, “No one saw the show for it, they saw it for Mac Dream.”
However, Pompeo stood firmly, he acknowledged the reaction and his manager remembered the warning when he re -discussed his salary.
“He said, ‘Are you ready to be unpopular? I just don’t want you to think that everyone will be happy for you and clap for you because many people are not happy for you.’
Looking back, Pompeo admitted that he did not expect such a response, but he was eventually grateful for the advice.
“Generally, it is difficult for people to celebrate other people if they have something that comes from something they want.”
He also identified the double standards of the industry, also explained how male athletes are praised for their massive contracts.
“This is a lot, and it is patronage and it is mismanagement,” he said. “Sports players are celebrated for their contracts. Don’t say that they are not worth it, but I mean, it’s okay for them to celebrate it.”
Pompeo made it clear that his fight for a fair salary was not about asking about something he had not received.
“I never want something I do not deserve … for which I have not worked,” he added, adding, adding that he has done his research exactly how much ABC is benefiting from Gree’s anatomy.
“This is my face, this is my voice. I have done a lot of work to promote the show all over the world for the past 20 years. I am the Disney Princess of this franchise, so I have a backup data. I know that this show has created a lot of money. I definitely deserve a percentage of it.”
When he was asked how he felt his historical million to return to the seat after receiving a salary of 20 million, Pompeo remembered who celebrated his victory – and who remained silent.
“I was ready for her because of her comments, but what I saw were the people who didn’t say anything,” he said.
“Then those who are silent – you know who doesn’t say anything – and you see it, and like you, ‘okay.’ I don’t know what to say, don’t hate the player, hate the game. “
