New York/Berlin: As the Trump administration urges Russia to end its war in Ukraine, several US national security agencies have stopped work on Russian sabotage, inexperienced information and coordinated efforts to counter cyber -attacks, which ease pressure on Moscow.
Amid the warning by the US Intelligence that Russia is increasing the shadow war against Western countries, former President Joe Biden ordered his national security team to set up working groups to monitor the issue last year.
The project was headed by the President’s National Security Council (NSC) and included at least seven national security agencies, working with European allies to disrupt plots targeting Europe and the United States, who participated in working groups.
Former US officials said that before the inauguration of President Donald Trump, his upcoming administration was informed by Biden officials about the efforts and called for continuing to monitor Russia’s hybrid war campaign.
However, since Trump took office on January 20, according to eleven current and former officials, they all requested not to make anonymity to discuss the issues.
Reuters are the first to report on how many different US agencies have stopped their work after the Biden administration’s efforts and after stopping their work on the issue.
Regular meetings between the National Security Council and the European National Security officials have been unmanageable, and the NSC has stopped official efforts in US agencies, including the FBI, the Department of Homeland, and the Department of Homeland, the Department of Homeland.
Reuters could not determine whether the president had ordered the administration to stop Russia’s campaign and counter Russia’s campaign, are the agencies still working to hire additional staff, or if they are making their policy decisions independently from the White House.
Some officials in working groups said they were concerned that the Trump administration was preferring the issue despite intelligence warnings. This change does not eliminate other Russian -based projects initiated by the Biden administration.
The FBI last month ended an attempt by foreign opponents, including Russia, to counter US elections and left the staff working on the issue in the Homeland Security sector. The Justice Department also abolished a team that seized the assets of Russian Eleigrich.
According to current US officials, the White House did not tell the career officials who had previously participated in the effort to re -create the crossing agency’s working groups.
It is unclear how far the United States is still sharing intelligence with European allies about the destruction campaign. Government officials in the UK said the usual intelligence between the United States and the British government continues.
When asked to comment on the suspension of integrated efforts, the White House postponed the NSc.
Brian Hughes, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said he was “linked to the relevant agencies to assess and thwart the threats posed by Americans.”
“President Trump has made it clear that any attack on the United States will be fulfilled with an inappropriate response,” he said.
A senior US official in NATO said that the United States was still in harmony with its allies on the issue, but it refused to provide further details. The CIA, the FBI and the State Department refused to comment.
Anta Hyper, EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy spokesman, said that when asked about the suspension of some intelligence sharing meetings, they have no special information to share.
He said that the European Union is in harmony with NATO to deal with hybrid risks, which extends everything from the physical sabotage of important infrastructure to individuality campaigns.
New policy about Europe
The cross agency’s efforts came to light when Trump promoted US policy on Europe and Ukraine, some of current and former US and European officials raised fears that Ukraine could be forced into a favorable war for Russia.
In recent weeks, Trump has taken statements and policy measures in favor of Russia, which has criticized both the Democrats and some Republicans.
But the president has argued that Ukraine has the potential to join the Second World War and that relations with Russia are in the US’s strategic interest.
Putin agreed to a Trump proposal on Tuesday that Russia and Ukraine should stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure for 30 days, the Kremlin said after a long conversation over the phone between the leaders.
Some analysts told Reuters that reducing work to counter Moscow’s hybrid war tactics would be dangerous to the United States.
“We’re choosing to blind ourselves for possible war -torn operations,” said Corey Shake, director of the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington -based think tank, “said Corey Shake, director of the American Enterprise Institute,” a Washington -based think tank, who criticized Trump’s involvement with Putin.
In the last three years, Russia has recruited criminals in European countries for sabotage operations throughout the subcontinent – including firearms, trying to kill and bomb cargo plane. Western intelligence officials told Reuters that Russia has also used influence campaigns and cyber operations to reduce Ukraine’s support.
Intelligence officials said the number of Russian sabotage operations has decreased by the end of 2024, but they have warned that Moscow expects its hybrid war, while Western support for Ukraine continues.
When asked about a break in Washington’s some hybrid war campaign, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Trump administration was trying to get rid of “everything ineffective, corrupt and incomprehensible”, which he said was “understandable.”
He added that Western accusations that Russia has committed in the United States and Europe are “empty and fictitious” and have not proved.
