LAHORE: The textile industry is ready for a major change as the Pakistan Ready Made Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) unveils its carbon neutral export model, which receives pure zero emissions in triple export bids.
In a press release, the PRGMEA said that with the global brands -bound global brands under the Paris Agreement, Pakistan has a unique opportunity to position itself as an important supplier of environmentally friendly textile and clothing. By adopting a carbon neutral approach, the country can harmonize with global trade trends, attract international buyers and strengthen its position in the competitive global market.
The proposed carbon neutral export model, developed by the Chairperson of the PRGMEA Dr. Ayaz Adin, provides a systematic roadmap to achieve these goals. The statement said that the project focuses on adopting solar energy, improving energy efficiency, promoting sustainable raw materials and promoting mutual cooperation between government and industry stakeholders. Under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, reducing dependence on fossil fuel and taking advantage of high -cost carbon credit, Pakistan can turn stability into economic advantage. This transition not only meets the standards of international stability but will also increase the country’s export capacity and long -term economic stability.
According to the press release, since international buyers prefer low emission supply chains, Pakistan has the potential to emerge as a priority source destination. The country can achieve it by integrating renewable energy, carbon trade, and sustainable agricultural methods into its textile production. Compared to major textile exporting countries like China, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Pakistan has a significant potential for carbon -influence and renewable energy expansion. More than 50 % of its exports are already linked to global buyers, Pakistan can take advantage of these benefits to gain competitive leadership in sustainable trade.
Dr. Ayaz Edin’s model calls for immediate action from policy makers, industry leaders and global trade partners. The key measures include setting the targets of pure zero export, establishing a carbon exchange, and offering concessions for sustainable cotton cultivation. Connecting carbon accounting in education and research institutes will be equipped with the expertise of the industry professionals with the skills needed for the stable economy.
The PRGMEA emphasized the urgency of working fast to take advantage of this opportunity. The global carbon market is growing rapidly, countries like Singapore and Indonesia position themselves as carbon trading centers. Future trade agreements are expected to be in favor of countries that actively involve carbon neutral policies in their supply chain.
According to the statement, the implementation of the proposed model is likely to bring significant economic and environmental benefits. The purpose is to triple Pakistan’s textile and clothing exports within the next decade, while reducing the country’s overall carbon marks. This change is also expected to create thousands of green jobs in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and carbon trading, which will further strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
Dr. Ayazuddin emphasized that the pursuit of carbon neutrality is not only environmental requirement but also a strategic move that will unlock commercial opportunities. He emphasized on all stakeholders – including government agencies, trade associations and industry leaders – to cooperate in implementing this vision. He emphasized that keeping the textile industry in alignment with pure zero targets will not only increase exports but also give the country an important benefit in the international market.
