Ukraine confirmed an American proposal for a 30 -day ceasefire and agreed to immediate talks with Russia in Krich Talks in Jeddah after a three -year grinding war on Tuesday.
Ukraine’s positive response persuaded President Donald Trump’s administration to freeze military aid and predict the end of the three -year war.
By putting intense pressure on Kiev with Trump’s amazing allies and reaching Moscow, Ukrainian officials came to Saudi Arabia to talk to them that they were desperate to make up and proposed a partial war on the air and maritime attacks.
Trump’s advisers pressed for more, saying that Ukraine agreed to a full month -long ceasefire in a war, which claimed tens of thousands of lives.
“Today we have made an offer that has been accepted by the Ukrainian residents, who have to enter the ceasefire and immediate negotiations,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters after a nine -hour talks at a Jeddah Hotel in Jeddah.
“We will now take this offer to the Russians and we hope they will say yes to peace. The ball is now in their court.
Rubio said about Russia, “Unfortunately, if they don’t say, we know what is a barrier to peace here.”
Rubio said the United States would immediately resume military assistance and intelligence sharing immediately after a devastating meeting between Trump and President Wolodmeer Zelaninski on February 28.
In Washington, Trump said he was ready to welcome Zilnski at the White House and could talk to President Vladimir Putin this week.
When a reporter was asked about the possibility of a comprehensive ceasefire in Ukraine, Trump replied: “Well, I hope this will happen in the next few days, I want to see.
“I know we have a big meeting with Russia yesterday and hope that there will be some great conversations.”
In a joint statement, Ukraine and the United States said they would conclude that “as soon as possible” that we had a Ukraine -gaining agreement, which Trump called for billions of dollars in US weapons under his predecessor, Biden.
Zelannski had to sign the agreement in the White House before the camera was dramatic, in which Trump and Vice President JD Venus dressed the war -torn leader and accused him of being offended.
Zlinski quickly thanked Trump for the “positive” ceasefire proposal in Jeddah, saying that the United States would now have to work to please Russia.
“The American party understands our arguments, understands our suggestions, and I want to thank President Trump for a constructive dialogue between my teams,” Zillsky said in his Syrian address.
Russia should respond ‘clearly’
Since the US cut -off of aid and intelligence sharing, Russia has accelerated attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and occupied its land in Russia’s Kraki region, which was infiltrated by Ukrainian forces after taking advantage of it.
A few hours before Jeddah talks, Ukraine attacked Moscow directly, in which hundreds of drones were bouncing in the capital and other areas, killing three people.
Zillsky’s top assistant Andrey Yarmak said in Jeddah that Ukraine has made it clear that his desire is peace.
“Russia needs to say that, very clearly, they want peace or not, they want to end the war, whether they started, whether they started, whether they started,” told reporters.
Trump’s sudden change after Biden’s strong support has shaken European allies, France and Germany have generally talked about the development of joint European defense if the United States no longer guarantees its security through NATO.
But Trump’s national security adviser, Mike Waltz, confronted that the Bresh president had “literally pushed forward the whole global dialogue” in support of peace.
Waltz told reporters along with Rubio, “If the war is about to end, we have gone away from how the war is ending.”
Waltz, who said he would talk to his Russian counterpart in the coming days, agreed to the Ukrainian residents to “end the killing, eliminate the tragic meat of the people and the national treasury”.
Allies careful
Rubio will visit Canada on Wednesday.
Rubio has said he will press the G7 to avoid Russia’s “anti -” language for fear of ending diplomacy.
In Poland, a top Ukrainian supporter and where Russia’s historical memories are deep, President Donald Tusk praised the “important step towards peace” through the United States and Ukraine.
Even if Russia agrees with a ceasefire, there is a lot of uncertainty in the negotiations. Ukraine has pressured security guarantees, but Trump has rejected NATO membership in another change by Biden.
In a conversation in Jeddah, “Waltz said,” significant details of the permanent ending of this war have been discussed, “what kind of guarantee they have for their long -term security and prosperity,” Waltz said.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who has abolished European forces in Ukraine as part of any agreement, said Tuesday that Kiev needs “credible” security guarantees in any ceasefire.
