Kiev: President Wolodmeer Zelannsky arrived in Jeddah on Monday before talks between Ukrainian officials and Saudi and US representatives, a member of a delegation traveling with him.
“We landed in Jeddah,” a Ukrainian delegation official told AFP.
The United States, once the central ally of Ukraine, has presented its war -timing policies in pursuit of the rapid end of fighting, and is directly engaged with Moscow while stopping military aid and intelligence sharing for Kiev.
With a new approach to the White House, Ukraine has emphasized the “practical” relationship between Zilnski and US President Donald Trump after the disastrous encounter of the Oval Office.
Zlinski was expected to meet with the Saudi Crown Prince after Monday, whose country has played the role of mediation since the 2022 invasion of Russia, including brokering prisoners exchange and hosting last month’s talks between Moscow and Washington.
The talks between US and Ukrainian officials on Tuesday are the first official meeting after Zillski’s White House’s inaccessible meeting, and Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Watkov said he had high hopes for going to talks.
“I think we are going there with a expectation that we will make good progress,” Vetcut said while interviewing Fox News.
Asked if he believes Zelinsky will return to the United States this week to sign a mineral agreement, Vitticov said: “I am really hoping. All the signs are very, very positive.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking to reporters on the way to Jeddah on Monday, echoed the hopefulness, though he stressed that there were still more details on the mineral agreement to work.
Under Trump’s a lot of pressure, Zilnsky has suffered to show that he is on the same page, yet he has failed to win US security guarantees that Kiev is important for any peace deal.
Zillski has said he will not attend talks with US officials on Tuesday, and that the Ukrainian delegation will include his chief of staff, his foreign and defense ministers and a top military official in the presidential administration.
“On our behalf, we are fully committed to constructive dialogue, and we hope that we will discuss and agree with the necessary decisions and actions,” Zillsky said in a post on X.
“Realistic suggestions are on the table. The key is to move forward quickly and effectively.”
US officials said they are planning to use the meeting with Ukraine to find out if Russia is willing to give material privileges to end the war.
An American official said: “We want to see if Ukraine people are interested not only in peace, but also in realistic peace.”
Trump said on Sunday that he expected good results from the upcoming talks, adding that Washington had eliminated the suspension of intelligence sharing with Kiev.
Framework for an agreement
Watkov, who is organizing the dialogue, said the idea was “a framework for a peace deal and also for an early ceasefire”.
Zlinski has demanded a prisoner exchange in the air and in the sea, as well as a prisoner exchange, according to which he could test Russia’s commitment to end the war.
Moscow has rejected the idea of a temporary war, which the British and France have also suggested, saying it has bid to buy time for Kiev and to stop its military elimination.
Zlinski has said that Kiev is ready to sign a mineral agreement with the United States, which will create a joint fund with the sale of Ukrainian minerals. Washington says it is very important to continue our support.
With the US support, Zelinsky is urging its European allies to increase their support as Kiev’s battlefield position is deteriorating and it is facing increasing pressure to withdraw from Russia’s Kursi region.
Open Source Maps shows that Ukrainian troops entering the region last summer have almost surrounded by Russian forces.
However, Kiev’s senior general, Olexander Sirsky, said on Monday that despite the recent response of Russian troops, which included North Korean troops, there was no danger of roaming their troops in the region.
Russia has a fifth of the Ukraine region, including Crimea, which it linked in 2014, and its troops are also pressing in the East Donetsk region, which has promoted drones and missile strikes on cities and towns far from the front.
Zillsky has said that Russia has launched a 1,200 aerial guide bomb, about 87 870 attack drones and more than 80 missiles in Ukraine last week.
