In the past few years, Rugby has seen significant growth in Pakistan, yet the leadership of the Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) is determined to achieve even more milestone. With a clear vision for sports development nationally and internationally, PRU is actively working to expand its reach and strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the global rugby field.
The Pro, established as a formal governing body of Rugby in Pakistan in 2000, was relatively inactive in his early years. However, the game took a special turn when Chaudhry Arif Saeed, a passionate sports administrator with Fawzi Khawaja, took over. In his time, Rugby not only achieved the structure in Pakistan but also saw significant progress in it.
The inheritance of sports leadership
Chaudhry Arif Saeed belongs to a prominent sports family. His grandfather, Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain, served as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), while his father Chaudhry Ahmed Saeed played an important role in promoting sports in promoting sports in the country, especially as Chairman of Pakistan’s Agricultural Development Bank.
Arif Saeed pushed this legacy to the rugby with a relentless dedication. Along with his team, led by Fauzi Khawaja, he worked hard for the development of sports across the country, ensuring that Pakistan could be able to run competitive squads in the field.
As a result, Pakistan is now a complete member of the World Rugby, Asia Rugby, and the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) and has been officially recognized by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) as the governing authority of the game.
New leadership for a new chapter
The PRU recently held elections for its next four-year term (2025-2029) at its headquarters at the Service House in Lahore. Elections were held in the presence of representatives of Asia Rugby, POA, and PSB, which ensured transparency and credibility.
The results identified a major change in leadership, Rajan-Rob Malik was elected as the new Pro President, replaced Chaudhry Arif Saeed, who was recently elected president of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). Rizwan Malik, who also served as the Vice President of Asia Rugby, brings with him more than 30 years of experience in the game, which is why he is well equipped to bring Pakistan Rugby to new heights.
Recognizing Arif Saeed’s long -standing partnership, Pro appointed him chairman, and he succeeded after Fuji Khawaja. The move ensures that Afif Saeed’s skill and leadership is available for the PRU, while it is allowed to focus on its new role in the Pakistan Olympic Association.
Diversity and joining: a new executive committee
The most progressive aspect of the recent elections was the formation of a highly educated and dynamic executive committee, which reflects a fresh view based on merit and joining. For the first time in the history of Pakistan Rugby, a significant number of women have been selected in key positions, which have marked a strong commitment to diversity in the administration of the game.
The newly elected vice presidents are: Ms Tahir Saleem, M Mozam Khan Waziri, M Naeem Javed, Mohsin Iqbal Khan. Other important members of the office include Salman Muzaffar Sheikh-Secretary and Aaron Naseem-Khazanchi. In addition, the executive committee now comprises Ms Raheel, Tariq Khan Niazi, M Tahir, M. Amir Tariq, Qaraat -ul -Haider, Samar Hayat and Hamad Safdar.
Vision for the future
On this occasion, Pro Chairman Arif Saeed welcomed the newly elected officials and thanked Fuji Khawaja for his services to Pakistan Rugby. It confirmed the commitment to develop the game. “We, as a team, want to increase lower -level programs, increase international participation, and make sure that rugby becomes a more prominent game in Pakistan.”
Rizwan Malik, President of the newly elected Pro, echoed the sentiments, emphasizing the development of players, expansion of infrastructure and international cooperation. He remarked: “This is a new era for Pakistan Rugby. We are determined to create more opportunities for young skills and take the game to the next level locally and internationally.
Increase the rugby image in Pakistan
Pro, Pro, has promised to increase rigging events across the country in the coming years, which focuses on women’s participation. More tournaments and exhibition opportunities have been planned for women’s teams in different age groups, which can ensure participation and long -term stability.
In addition, the introduction of rugby at the provincial and district level has played an important role in spreading sports access. Pro has also launched school -level programs, which has integrated rugby into educational institutions for young skills from an early age. The game has gained even more recognition as it is now part of Pakistan’s national sports, which has led more than 200 players to work in universities and various departments.
Pakistan’s growing presence in Asian Rugby
The Pakistan Rugby Union is one of the top rugby unions in Asia, which has successfully run the “Gate in Rugby” project for the past three years. The move has played an important role in increasing participation at the lower levels. In just a short period of five years, Pro has made significant progress by setting up rugby grounds in multiple cities, including southern Punjab, FATA, Quetta, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Lodharan, Multan, Melissa, Fort Abbas, Muzaffar, Bahawalpur, Bahawalpur and Lahawalpur.
With a dedicated leadership team and a Mahatkankashi Roadmap for development, Pakistan Rugby is ready for a promising future. PRU efforts to enhance the game at the lower levels, national and internationally are producing positive results.
