KARACHI: An injured bear, who was exploited in an illegal and brutal process of exploitation – where bears are raised against entertainment dogs – has been rescued from Sargodha in Punjab.
Following the request of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) and the Punjab Wildlife Department, on March 1, the World Animal Welfare Organization, Four Paws, left for Pakistan for Pakistan.
Rocky, who was seized by authorities from illegal private prison in Sargodha, expressed severe abuse in 35 battles, which caused him to suffer several injuries, including severe bleeding on his face and waist.
Four PAWS experts immediately provided veterinary support and later provided Rocky’s transfer to the IWMB Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Islamabad, where it would receive more necessary treatment.
After the court decision, Rocky’s rescue is a joint effort by the Wildlife officials in Pakistan.
The IMWB was requested by four claws to support the transfer of the bear on February 27 after being confiscated by the authorities.
Its migration was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court and with the help of Assistant Director Wildlife for Punjab Region, it was supported by the facility when it was confiscated so that it could provide care of the need.
Videos examined by four claws also highlighted the unpleasant nature of the bear’s fight, as it shows that the aggressive bears are being attacked by dogs during the recent fighting.
Instant Veterinary Treatment
For battles, all Rocky teeth were removed. To support its recovery, in addition to the surgery post -treatment plan, so a special dietary plan will be developed to ensure that Rocky gets a proper diet as it is unable to chew due to dental deficiency.
Immediately during the veterinary treatment, experts from all four claws treated his wounds and removed his nose ring and the chain in his throat, which was so severe that his skin had already been damaged.
“We found the bear in a disturbing state, with the wounds that shed on his eyes, nose, ears and waist. The abuse he had to endure leaves physical and mental wounds, because he is in a state of shock and is constantly shaking,” four pounds of veterinarian, Aamir, Amir.
“We took immediate steps to relieve his pain and treat his injuries. We also helped to move the IWMB to a suitable home, where he can find some comfort. He is a sign of hope for all other beings that are still suffering from human entertainment.

In April 2024, all four PAWS experts were present at the site at the IWMB Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Islamabad to support the treatment of eight residential dancing and cutting bears who were rescued.
In addition, they supported local authorities with the rescue and migration of Bears Boogie and Leila, who were kept in chains and was abused with it – both bears were in poor condition at the time of rescue, but they have recovered.
The four claws said that the beer by -bating remains a disturbing reality where, despite being illegal, the bears are subjected to brutal fighting against trained dogs for entertainment.
This exercise affects severe physical and psychological trauma on the bears, which often results in broken teeth, eliminating piercing snacks and claws.
Dance bears are imprisoned or forced to perform mracts of entertainment. Training methods include painful steps such as hot metal plates and metal ring through sensitive nose and jaw, which allows owners to control the bears.
In Pakistan, beer dance and boutings were introduced by the British as sports and continued in particular for personal entertainment in Punjab.
Although there is a ban all over the world, this cruel behavior remains intact. Pakistani authorities have been taking strong action against them since 2024.
The exact number of illegal bears is not known, but the estimates are more than a hundred to a hundred. Caught as cubes, many are released later but struggle to survive due to hunger or missing claws and teeth.
