PESHAWAR: The case, which reported a sexual harassment at the University of Malakand on Sunday, resulted in the suspension of the accused teachers, who have already been imprisoned on the same charges. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed concern over the incident, which has given rise to anger across the province.
The incident happened a few weeks ago when a Pakistani -educated teacher, along with his wife, allegedly visited the house of a student of the sixth semester Urdu department so that he could “harass and kidnap him”. –
According to sources, the teachers were equipped with a gun and a knife and tried to put pressure on the family, which they indicated to law enforcement officials to file a lawsuit against it. Arrest him.
Several teachers’ videos reported by a student’s family went viral on social media.
The family approached the university administration, with the approval of the Vice -Chancellor, to a delegation, to go to the occasion. Upon arrival, they found the family angry, the teachers were imprisoned in a separate room.
A member of the delegation told the news that when he asked the accused teacher for a version of the events, the teachers admitted that he had no justification for his actions. Later, the family contacted the district administration, which arrested both the teachers and his wife from the student’s house. According to sources, the wife was released the next day.
After the recent legislation of the KP Assembly, Governor Kandi, who is no longer served as the Chancellor of the University, expressed disappointment over the incident.
“It is very disturbing to hear about such inappropriate behavior of teachers,” he said in a statement.
He emphasized that such activities hindered women’s educational development and empowerment. Demanding police, district administration and university officials to conduct a transparent investigation, they urged them to ensure justice service.
The governor said the traditions and values of the province affiliated with Pukhtoon do not accept such notorious behavior. He called for strict action against those who tried to defame the reputation of educational institutions and to disrupt the future of students.
Criticizing the provincial government’s limited participation in the affairs of the University of Recruitment, he emphasized the need for monitoring and security measures in the educational settings.
The teachers were arrested by Malakand Levies when a female student lodged a complaint in which she was accused of harassing her and alleged abduction from her house.
According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Malakand, Mahibullah Yousafzai, the accused was arrested from the student’s house and a case was registered under Section 365B, 511, 452, 354, and 506 of the law. He confirmed that the investigation was underway.
After the arrest, the university administration suspended the teachers and sent the case to the Anti -Harassment Committee, which has already heard with the complainant and issued a statement against the accused.
The committee is expected to finalize its report soon and present it to the University Syndicate for further disciplinary action, sources in the university administration told The News.
Vice -Chancellor Professor Dr. Rasheed Ahmed said the university worked immediately to find out about the incident.
He said the FIR was registered and the accused was in jail at the time. He assured that the Anti -Harassment Committee is conducting a fair and transparent inquiry, the results of which will be presented to the University Syndicate to ensure justice.
Some reports said that on the day of the incident, the accused teachers had visited the student’s house with his wife to propose a wedding. Such measures are considered to be extremely inappropriate in a strict Pashtun society, which leads to the expected reaction. The student’s family allegedly seized the teachers’ mobile phones, which allegedly contained objectionable messages, videos and photos.
It was learned that the female student was recently busy. On the day of the incident, he verbally complained to the University Provost. Sources said that when the Provost called the teachers, he allegedly responded to a misconduct, stating that it was his personal matter and had no authority to interfere with the university administration.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandpur, who is serving as Chancellor of Public Sector Universities, has constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
According to an official notification, the committee includes: Asif Rahim – Additional Secretary Administration Department, Sonia Shamroz – Additional Inspector General, Establishment and Central Police Office, KP.
