LAHORE: Vintage Ken Williamson Siddi, with a brilliant 97, helped New Zealand enter the finals of the Tree Nation Series final when they won six wickets against South Africa at Gaddafi Stadium here on Monday. ۔
Chasing a target of 305, the Black Caps traveled to victory with eight balls, thanks to an epic contribution of 187 runs between Williamson and Devon Conneway. In his first ODI, the highest scores so far by a player, his bravery, was finally shaded by Williamson.
Chase started cautiously for New Zealand, openers Kanway and Will Young scored a solid opening stand of 50 runs. The dismissal for Young’s 19 brought Williamson into the crease, and the color of the match changed dramatic.
Former New Zealand captain and Kanway has set a record -breaking partnership, the highest one -day stand for New Zealand against South Africa. Konway, playing perfect foil for Williamson’s aggressive point of view, decreased from his century, and he hit 97 off 107 balls, targeting nine fours and a six.
A short wobel threatened New Zealand’s progress when South Africa’s Debitant spinner, Senorran Matheshmi, immediately attacked Daryl Mitchell and Tom Latham immediately. However, Williamson remained baseless while displaying his class and experience. He reached his 14th ODI, and after the 2019 World Cup, only 72 out of the delivery, his first event reached.
Earlier in the day, South Africa chose the first batting and posted a total of 304-6. The innings was praised by Brett’s extraordinary performance. Despite the bravery of Bretz’s, the innings was taken through slow scoring periods, especially in the middle overs, which eventually hindered their chances of posting a large overall. Vian Molder supported a valuable 64, but South Africa’s tomorrow’s commitment proved to be inadequate by New Zealand.
New Zealand’s bowling attack was led by Matt Henry and Will Overk, who both took two wickets. The victory won New Zealand in the final of the Tree Series. South Africa are now facing an important game to win against Pakistan in Karachi on Wednesday. A loss will end them from the tournament.
