ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Communications informed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Communication that only Rs 64 billion was allocated despite requesting to allocate Rs 164 billion in the budget last year.
This reduction is a key factor that plays an important role in delaying the completion of the project. In light of these challenges, the committee decided to discuss plans from each province and hold separate meetings to resolve their resolution, which aims to facilitate their resolution.
The NA Standing Committee on Friday held a meeting with Ejaz Hussain Jharni, chairman of the panel on the chair. The meeting was also discussed at the M -6 Skor -Hyderabad project and it was explained that the project was divided into five parts with a revised total cost of 3999bn under the PPP model. The steering committee is currently in Baku, Azerbaijan, to seek financial support for priority projects. In addition, the secretary informed the committee that the M -6 project is considered to be the most possible for the production of taxes through toll tax, the cost of the project is expected to be regained in the first eight years. The Islamic Development Bank has expressed interest in financing the M-6 project, with representatives expected to visit it next month for feasibility diagnosis.
The committee also discussed the North Bypass of the crowd, focusing on the affairs of the crowd and possible solutions. It was noted that the only viable solution to remove Karachi’s traffic crowd was the North Bypass. It was further highlighted that two lane roads, Lyari Expressway are insufficient to handle heavy traffic. The committee directed the ministry to provide a one -page summary of all the ongoing projects, in which their expenses, completion timelines, importance and reasons for any delay. This will allow the committee to prioritize the projects and ensure timely completion.
The committee was told that every three years, the toll tax rates are revised and it is recommended that the amendment will also have a comprehensive public awareness campaign. In addition, the committee said that no new schemes should be introduced till the completion of existing projects in the PSDP, to avoid increased cost and ensure timely delivery.
The committee reviewed the PSDP schemes for the next financial year 2025-26, which has been directed in two previous meetings, its rules and regulations for procedures and practices, sub-governance of 2007 (6 ) And (7). The Ministry of Communications informed the committee that the Ministry of Planning and Development and Special measures have not yet issued a budget call circular to finalize the guidelines for the preparation of next year’s PSDP.
The Ministry of Communications said that once the circular was received, it would be able to present the proposed scheme to the committee. The committee expressed its dissatisfaction, as the recommendation of the last two meetings specifically demanded the Ministry of Communications to accelerate the process and ensure that the relevant ministries should be submitted in a timely.
